Historia
Deep within the labyrinth of caves that lies below the lush, rolling vineyards of the Champagne region, an underground city of women and children hums with life. Forced to take shelter from the unrelenting onslaught of German shellfire above, the bravest and most defiant women venture out to pluck sweet grapes for the harvest. But wine is not the only secret preserved in the cool, dark cellars... In present day, Rosalyn Acosta travels to Champagne to select vintages for her Napa-based employer. Rosalyn doesn't much care for champagne - or France, for that matter.

Juliet Blackwell has given her readers a gift of a story. It weaves the present and past together expertly. It takes the reader to France and Napa Valley and lets us meet characters we would like to see in future novels. I loved it. Juliet Blackwell has given her readers a gift of a story. Tuscany, 1943. Stranded in war-ravaged Italy, Beatrice’s dream of an escapist year teaching English is shattered. Granted shelter at the Villa delle Colombe, she seeks refuge in Francesca and Edoardo’s beautiful walled garden, hidden from the outside world, with an elaborate cypress maze at its heart. But Beatrice is not the only one seeking an escape here. Francesca has brought children to the safety of the house, as well as other adults, all of them seeking sanctuary on the estate with its mysterious maze.

What a good listen. We bounce back and forth from Tuscany 1943, and Tess in 2015. Tess
The best characters and great lessons in life! “Grief is just love that has no where to go. The narration by Henrietta Meire and Ruth Redman was some of the best I've enjoyed and will seek out more titles they have performed.

Historia
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

Starts out slow but the finish is GREAT
Revisado: 01-20-25
So slow in the beginning. 54 total chapters, the first 30 were sleepy. Then it got better. Some twists and surprises that were very unexpected. The last quarter of the book was really good. I'm pretty good at figuring things out but this one surprised me.
I'm glad I stuck with it.

To make things worse, Liz is the ex-girlfriend of DCI Craig Gillard who is drawn into the investigation. Is it just a missing person or something worse? And what relevance do the events around the shocking Girl F case, so taken up by Knight, have to do with the present? The truth is darker than you could ever have imagined.

rough start but glad I kept listening
Revisado: 12-29-24
the first chapter is almost the best. after that, it drags until maybe 2/3 through and then stuff gets intriguing. I don't love the main character. he's a bit of a narcissist, and kind of a jerk. I was irritated with how the author trivialized the female characters as objects, valued only for their looks. almost like it was written in the 70's, without the cars language. it ends about halfway through, which is weird, too. almost like someone else wrote some of the chapters. overall it was an intriguing mystery, which I didn't figure out till near the end. the narration was pretty good, maybe a tad flat, though that just be how he delivered the character. I'll try another by this author

Lennon Carter’s life is falling apart. Then she gets a mysterious phone call inviting her to take the entrance exam for Drayton College, a school of magic hidden in a secret pocket of Savannah. Lennon has been chosen because—like everyone else at the school—she has the innate gift of persuasion, the ability to wield her will like a weapon, using it to control others and, in rare cases, matter itself.

I listened to the entire thing on a road trip. I want more please!
My person opinion (who cares lol) is it needs a better title.
I would call it: The Gatekeeper. I’m really impressed with this book. Complex yet entertaining. Every detail is there for a reason. As a fantasy writer also, I’m deeply impressed. I absolutely loved everything about it, especially the fact that the characters are adults—not the typical angsty teens. Lennon, in particular, stood out for me. She’s a little chaotic and free-spirited, but when it matters most, she taps into her inner strength and shows incredible growth. I’m really hoping this book turns into a series because I’d love to follow Lennon’s journey and see where life takes her next!

Absolutely not what I expected. Part mystery, part self discovery; alternate funny and heartbreaking. I don’t think I’ve read anything quite like this before. So many twists and unexpected revelations, some I guessed correctly; others I got completely wrong. I will be thinking about this for a while yet. What more could a person want? It’s the gay fantasy murder mystery you didn’t know you needed! Great mystery with lots of layers and twists. narrator made it better.

Historia
The Beechwood Inn for paranormal beings is opening its doors once again, and the first event following the hiatus is a fairy godmother conference. When the godmothers arrive, I expect them to bust out their knitting projects and sip tea, while they swap recipes and sweet stories of their cherubic charges. So, when the sitting room turns into a defensive magic combat zone and a boot camp style obstacle course is erected in the manor's backyard, I'm more than a little thrown off. Then the curse gets unleashed.

Good addition to the series.
Revisado: 11-22-24
Here we get to see the inner workings of the fairy Godmother world and all is not happy or sunshine with rainbows. We see what it takes to be a fairy godmother along with what people will do to become one or leave. We follow the latest character to join the series as she begins to learn magic and learns how to be a cat. They also begin to help solve the mysteries of the manor. This book was written in 2023 and I hope that means this storyline is just beginning because this book leaves everything open for much more to come. I don’t want to spoil anything for people, but there are some revelations in this book which would make some juicy gossip for a certain ghost!

Rachel's memory is a fractured mirror, with the reflection of Sean Harrington, her wealthy ex-boyfriend, caught in its shards. Despite accusations and suspicions, Rachel's ethereal heart refuses to believe Sean's guilt.

Enjoyable 3 book in this series.
Revisado: 11-22-24
Assuming there will be a 4th book in this series. I love most of Danielle Garrett's work, but the Beachwood Harbor characters are by far the best... and this story was on point. I liked Book 2 in this series, but this one was even better, bringing the storyline back to the feel of earlier Beachwood mysteries. That said, most of the appeal comes from Amanda Ronconi's narration. She is the BEST.
