Robotic narration; suspicious of 5-star reviews

I am returning this title. Not worth it... The narrator sounds like a robot. No empathy; no inflection. It’s like a voicemail from a spambot. Also, I think a lot of these 5-star reviews were bought. No discussion about the presentation / narration.

Sooooo many deeeetailllls, very dry narration

Just sayin... we wanted to listen to this while coming home from our Thanksgiving weekend and while we all have tremendous respect and gratitude for Admiral McRaven’s illustrious and skillful career safeguarding our liberty, this audiobook was crushingly dry. We couldn’t take it anymore. Had to stop at chapter 11.
Perhaps an actor could do a more entertaining depiction, and sparing us all the details of the size of the caliber of the artillery and ammunition and the military time and acronyms... it is just a lot to listen to. Too much.
That said, we are sincerely grateful for your service Admiral McRaven. 🙏🏻

Dull monotone dirge

The story is interesting but the style is confusing as the author's voice (writing voice) wavers between adultified child and infantalized adult; there is no consistency.
I'm always interested in a good memoir, but this doesn't feel memoir-esque; it's like a tattle-tale at times. I think what has earned this book such high ratings is the sensational nature of the content and perhaps a lot of nepotism.
The narration is troubling; absolutely no emotional investment is made by this author. It's almost as if she is reading a geological survey. Her affect is completely flat. Don't listen to this on a long car trip; it can be hypnotizing -- no joke.
