Very sad but well written. Had to listen to the end. The end was at least uplifting compared to rest of the story

Historia
Keri Locke, Missing Persons Detective in the Homicide division of the LAPD, remains haunted by the abduction of her own daughter, years before, never found. Still obsessed with finding her, Keri buries her grief the only way she knows how: by throwing herself into the cases of missing persons in Los Angeles. A routine phone call from a worried mother of a high-schooler, only two hours missing, should be ignored. Yet something about the mother's voice strikes a chord, and Keri decides to investigate.

Good book
Revisado: 01-13-21
Good plot. Well read by performer. There is a disconnect though in that the story takes place in California but the reader is obviously British with absolutely no attempt to sound American. Uses terms like Mum instead of Mam. I kept expecting her to say DI this and Chief inspector. I think the reader should attempt to sound as if they’re from the setting the book is written in

Historia
If you've ever laughed your way through David Sedaris's cheerfully misanthropic stories, you might think you know what you're getting with Calypso. You'd be wrong. When he buys a beach house on the Carolina coast, Sedaris envisions long, relaxing vacations spent playing board games and lounging in the sun with those he loves most. And it's as idyllic as he imagined, except for one tiny, vexing realization: it's impossible to take a vacation from yourself. With Calypso, Sedaris sets his formidable powers of observation - and dark humor - toward middle age and mortality.

I’m not sure how this made the bestseller list. It was a middle aged man reminiscing about events in his life. Sadly his outlook seems very cynical. Perhaps his way of coping with his disappointments. I did listen to the whole thing because I paid for it. I kept thinking there would be something uplifting about it but it’s just not there.

Not into books with the supernatural impossible storylines. Reader sounded like an eighth grader performer. Not sure how it got the ratings and reviews i read before purchasing it.

On Christmas Day in 1893, every man, woman and child in a remote mining town will disappear, belongings forsaken, meals left to freeze in vacant cabins, and not a single bone will be found - not even the gold that was rumored to have been the pride of this town. One hundred and thirteen years later, two backcountry guides are hired by a leading history professor and his journalist daughter to lead them into the abandoned mining town so they can learn what happened.

Best audiobook I've ever listened to. Great story. Never boring. Highly recommend. I'm very picky. This book gets 5 stars from me.
