In The Half Has Never Been Told, historian Edward E. Baptist reveals the alarming extent to which slavery shaped our country politically, morally, and most of all, economically. Until the Civil War, our chief form of innovation was slavery. Through forced migration and torture, slave owners extracted continual increases in efficiency from their slaves, giving the country a virtual monopoly on the production of cotton, a key raw material of the Industrial Revolution.

Tough Read But Worth It

It's a long book because it's a long, complex, ugly story. So much not learned in history class or openly discussed. Sad that racism still exists. Recommended read.

What made the experience of listening to No Country for Old Men the most enjoyable?
Tom Stechschulte's narration of "No Country For Old Men" really made the book for me. I've never read Cormac McCarthy; I did not see the movie. Having the story read by Mr. Stechschulte nailed it and I will likely venture into another book by this loved author.

Very Entertaining Listen to a Well-Written Story

Would you listen to The Good Lord Bird again? Why?
Michael Boatman is a fantastic narrator, and James McBride wrote a very entertaining, touching book. I honestly did not listen to it for any historical fact, just listened for the pure pleasure of a well-written, well-told story.
