Historia
"There is the mammal way and there is the bird way." But the bird way is much more than a unique pattern of brain wiring, and lately, scientists have taken a new look at bird behaviors they have, for years, dismissed as anomalies or mysteries - what they are finding is upending the traditional view of how birds conduct their lives, how they communicate, forage, court, breed, survive. They are also revealing the remarkable intelligence underlying these activities, abilities we once considered uniquely our own.

loved it
Revisado: 08-10-21
I don't often leave reviews, but this book was noteworthy for me. I feared it might be too similar to the author's other title The Genius of Birds, but it was not. There was little crossover, so nearly everything I heard was new information to me. I loved the variety of birds that were covered, and I was especially fascinated by the brood parasitic birds and the communal raising of chicks. The final words at the end of the book struck me deeply. A great thanks goes out to the author for creating this work.

loved it and read it 3 times
Revisado: 02-07-21
I rarely write reviews, bit this book has impacted me deeply. Cathy Heller is genuine, empathetic, and offers deeply instructive advice on more than just not keeping your day job. She goes well beyond by telling readers how much our gifts are truly needed in this world. It is our responsibility to give those gifts to others. I loved the message and I sure I will be listening to it a 4th time. Thank you, Cathy!

Historia
There's no other book like this. Longtime running writer Scott Douglas marshals expert advice (including his own, cultivated from more than 100,000 miles of personal experience), and a growing body of scientific research to show how running can make us happier. How? Everyone knows that running builds stronger muscles and a healthier heart; science now shows it also helps develop a healthier brain. For those struggling with depression and anxiety, a consistent running routine can enhance the mental-health benefits of talk therapy, antidepressants, and cognitive behavioral therapy.

The title says it all

This book was exactly what I was looking for. It explained why running makes me feel so much better, how others use running as a coping strategy, and when to get worried if you think you're using running as a crutch.

Historia
The year is 1672. Hangman Jakob Kuisl and his family travel to Munich, the cosmopolitan heart of Bavaria, for a meeting of the prestigious Council of Twelve, the leaders of the empire’s hangmen’s guild - prestigious for dishonourable hangmen at least. But something dark is happening behind the scenes: in the past weeks, young women have begun turning up dead. At first the authorities assume they are a rash of suicides, but when Kuisl notices that each woman possesses a matching amulet, suspicions arise that someone is murdering them.

Excellent interweaving of story lines!
Revisado: 12-01-18
I truly enjoyed this book, as well as the other Hangman's Daughter novels. The characters are well developed, the story lines are intriguing, and everything wraps up perfectly. The topic is applicable to the sensibility of a modern readership. I will continue to seek out Poetzch's works. I'm just disappointed the book had to come to an end!
