Historia
When Michael Pollan set out to research how LSD and psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) are being used to provide relief to people suffering from difficult-to-treat conditions such as depression, addiction, and anxiety, he did not intend to write what is undoubtedly his most personal book. But upon discovering how these remarkable substances are improving the lives not only of the mentally ill but also of healthy people coming to grips with the challenges of everyday life, he decided to explore the landscape of the mind in the first person as well as the third.

A BIG Book!
Revisado: 11-28-21
Pulls together a lot of stuff about who we are, and what psychedelics tell us about that. Well-integrated, and well-narrated by the author.

Thoughtful Yet Concise
Revisado: 01-07-13
Well written and well narrated. Concise, thoughtful treatment of a very complex topic that occurred more than 200 years ago but remains broadly relevant to our understanding of today's world.

This is a big story. Jack Weatherford's research was exhaustive and required Herculean effort and persistence. To top it off, he then put it together into a great story that is well-presented here, and that remains relevant to the world that we live in. Anyone interested in history should read, or listen to, this wonderful book and enjoy the fruits of Jack's work.

Historia
This superbly told story brings to life one of the most remarkable rulers––and men––in all of history and conveys the drama of his life and world. The Russia of Peter's birth was very different from the Russia his energy, genius, and ruthlessness shaped. Crowned co-Tsar as a child of ten, after witnessing bloody uprisings in the streets of Moscow, he would grow up propelled by an unquenchable curiosity, everywhere looking, asking, tinkering, and learning, fired by Western ideas.

History at its best!
Revisado: 07-02-12
One of the best books you will ever read! Exquisitely researched and well told, this is an epic story about one of the great figures of history. In its pages, one sees Peter lead Russia out of the dark ages as many of the great themes of human character are played out. Not only that, but but one also gets a terrific panoramic view of Europe as the foundations are being laid for the modern age. A truly wonderful book!
