The vale between good and evil is thin
Revisado: 03-18-25
I thought this story was a great exposition of how a broken soul can overcome the evil that inhabits them. A possession story about everyday people, with regular struggles.
Elena is a teacher preparing for a book report for her students when things go awry. She is suspended for strange behavior and in anger distanced herself from her friend, Clare.
One of her students recognizes something odd she’s seen before. When the evil entity visits her in her dreams and connects itself to her favorite teacher, she has to do something.
A fallen priest will come to their aid with some baggage of his own.
This story is fast paced and well put together. Steven Pajak is an author to watch.

Historical value with dread and gore
Revisado: 07-09-24
The author really did his homework on this one. The sights and sounds of World War II Germany were very vivid and work to immerse the reader in the experience. I’ll warn you they are so well done, it’s gut wrenching.
The tension of the protagonists profession in Poland also makes for a tense situation as he is sought after for certain death if the Nazis find out. It all adds to the hopelessness and the cunningness of Joseph to find a way out of Auschwitz, the most notorious concentration camp in history.
The ending will surprise readers as it takes a strange turn and displays even more gruesome scenes. Some of the most bloody in the whole book. If you have the stomach to handle this book you will be greatly rewarded. The story and characters are one of a kind and well put together. I highly recommend this one.

Have you ever agreed to something without understanding the consequences? What would you do if a cursed object came into your possession? Burn it? Seek spiritual help? Pass it on? This is the impossible choice Curtis must face as a sinister entity is thrust upon him. As the walls close in and the evil takes hold, he must act before his life is forever altered.

The creepiness of the story
Revisado: 04-30-24
This is my first book by this author and I’m happy to say it was incredible. The desperation of the protagonist coupled with the creepy nature of the monster made this book a treat. I also found the characters to be believable and interesting. The main character is a garbage man, but he seems much deeper than his profession.
There were a bunch of horror tropes as well. A cursed box and an interesting old man who may have an answer. I’ve heard that one a few times but it doesn’t take away from the story. The author weaves it in with a special flare I didn’t see coming.
This book was a delight to read and I would highly recommend it at night. Especially when the demonic force begins to talk. I heard that in broad daylight and it caused me to shudder. Well done.

What a thrill ride of horror
Revisado: 09-12-23
Such a great collection of stories. Just when I thought it couldn’t get better than Ghostwritten, and that one is definitely a favorite of mine, I was wrong. They Lurk is a fun filled ride all the way. Fierce is my top favorite. Such a gripping story of the willingness to survive. The connection between mother and daughter comes through in this one and is touching but brutal at the same time. After the Fade is an apocalyptic story with a strange twist. The Stranger brings lots of great cringe worthy bloody scenes. Well put together and gruesome. This book is well worth the read!

Another great book!
Revisado: 10-14-22
This is my second by this author, and I loved it! The characters were great, the story was fantastic. I love the way the author weaves a tale from my past into an epic rock and roll battle for souls. Everyone from my generation (Gen X), can relate to dreaming of heavy metal and a life on the road with a band. This story puts into perspective what happens when those dreams get derailed. Following Chris through all her problems and how she only wanted to play, made me feel for her in so many ways. I love her mantra, a girl with a guitar doesn’t have to apologize for anything. Great read and I’m sure I’ll be checking out more by their author. You should too.

Loved the eighties references
Revisado: 10-06-22
I’ve found a new favorite author. I read this book when it came up in my cue as a book I’d be interested in. At first I wasn’t sure how to take it, and I’ll admit I came close to not finishing. But then the story took a turn for the better when all the girls meet in a cabin to try acid. Being a teen in the eighties myself, I could see as well as hear the descriptions of the clothes, the music, all the good stuff of my youth. The story will hold you because when it gets moving, it’s a ride. If you’re looking for a fun read this is the one.

Everyone has wanted their favorite book to be real, if only for a moment. Everyone has wished to meet their favorite characters, if only for a day. But be careful in that wish, for even a history laid in ink can be repaid in flesh and blood, and reality is far deadlier than fiction...especially on Addington Isle.

Interesting concept
Revisado: 10-06-22
I saw this book through ads and several groups on social media. It didn’t disappoint. I still find myself quoting some of the characters. From Finn the fox, or Runny the rabbit. Bing the builder bear it Flackwell the frog. They all have a different voice and one you won’t forget easily. It’s like the characters of the hundred acre wood all came to life, but instead of searching for honey, this bear wields a war hammer and bad disposition. The book has lots of twists and turns and is beautifully written. Very well done.

Historia
Retired wreckhead Catherine Gray, author of surprise best seller The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober, is now in her ninth sober year and has learnt a damn sight more. This hotly anticipated sequel enlists the help of experts and case studies, turning a curious, playful gaze onto provocative questions. Is alcohol a parenting aid? Why are booze and cocaine such a horse and carriage? Once an addict, always an addict? How do you feel safe—from alcohol, others and yourself—in sobriety?

Just what was needed
Revisado: 09-22-21
I’m a writer and alcohol has been a problem for me for years. I listened to the first book as well and find even though I’ve had a few relapses since then, it’s never too late to get back into sobriety. I’m shooting for the rest of my life now and plan to stick with it.
