Historia
The campaign of destruction that Axel Soledad and Dallas Cates wreaked on Nate Romanowski and Joe Pickett left both men in tatters, especially Nate, who lost almost everything. Wondering if the civilized life left him vulnerable to attack, Nate dropped off the grid with his falcons in tow to prepare for vengeance. When Joe gets a call from the governor asking for help finding his son-in-law, who has gone missing in the Sierra Madre mountain range, he enlists the help of a local, a rookie game warden named Susan Kany.

Just finished and I can’t wait for the next book. As per usual, the characters practically jump off the page and I am sitting on the edge of my seat for 75% of the book.

Raymond Jaffe feels like he doesn’t belong. Not with his mother’s new family. Not as a weekend guest with his father and his father’s wife. Not at school, where he’s an outcast. After his best friend moves away, Raymond has only two real connections: to the feral cat he’s tamed and to a blind ninety-two-year-old woman in his building who’s introduced herself with a curious question: Have you seen Luis Velez?

Kindness wins ! Great character development and the reader did an amazing job narrating this. I wish this was required reading in high school.

It was an interesting story line but it definitely could have been condensed. Maybe this would have been a better book to read than to listen too?

Historia
Leigh Collier has worked hard to build what looks like a normal life. She has a good job as a defense attorney, a daughter doing well in school, and even her divorce is relatively civilized - her life is just as unremarkable as she’d always hoped it would be. But Leigh’s ordinary life masks a childhood that was far from average...a childhood tarnished by secrets, broken by betrayal, and finally torn apart by a devastating act of violence.

Extreme violence and covid setting
Revisado: 09-21-24
I almost returned the book twice because it was set in the time of the covid epidemic and the extreme violence.
The story takes place in the time of the covid crisis and has struggled to hold up over time as many initial narratives have since been challenged or debunked, In hindsight, it's clear that some covid portrayals were influence by incomplete or misleading information, which lead to a sense of mistrust. I am surprised the author did not update the authors notes at the end of the book to reflect what we currently know. It appears that the author has left-leaning perspectives and overt political bias. To me personally, I find that distasteful in a fictional setting unless it has something to do with the plot line. I think this is the 12 book of Karin Slaughters that I have purchased, and it will be the last.

New Title needed
Revisado: 12-15-23
Seriously! Covid was a terrible time for many of us , not just the way our author describes. It’s a bold move to alienate 50 percent of his readership by portraying all the dumb or evil people as non vaxing, non masking Trumpsters. Not just once but over and over and over again. He probably could have shaved 25 pages off the book by just saying it once.
Shame on me for not reading the reviews before I paid for the book.

Would you write this today?
Revisado: 10-22-23
With the crisis at the border under the Biden administration would the author write the same today? Sex trafficking, drug smuggling and terrorist have out numbered families.
Maybe if Cork and Rainy sponsored a family in their church , this story could of ended on a positive note and not been so sanctimonious.

Deplorables need not read
Revisado: 11-28-20
If you love reading books for escapism, don’t buy. It’s bad enough that the author sets this in the current pandemic situation for no apparent reason but also had to bash a potential juror because he had a Trump 2020 bumper sticker. One gets the impression not only the main character is prejudice but the author also.

Historia
1941. Audrey Coltrane has always wanted to fly. It's why she implored her father to teach her at the little airfield back home in Texas. It’s why she signed up to train military pilots in Hawaii when the war in Europe began. And it’s why she insists she is not interested in any dream-derailing romantic involvements, even with the disarming Lieutenant James Hart, who fast becomes a friend as treasured as the women with whom she flies. Then one fateful day, she gets caught in the air over Pearl Harbor just as the bombs begin to fall, and suddenly, nowhere feels safe.
