Typical Compelling Dekker
Revisado: 02-19-24
Twists and turns, revealing truths as the storyline develops.
Dekker develops a story about a serial killer and delves into the darkness of that psyche as the FBI rushes to try and stop one more death.
The narrator does a very good job differentiating the voices and is very consistent with only a few minor exceptions.
The faint hearted may not want to listen to this story at night.

Good story, details challenging
Revisado: 02-08-24
The kings secret has a good storyline. It has some twists and turns in the plot that keep the story interesting. It is positive and uplifting to the reader.
There are a few drawbacks. The author doesn’t always keep track of the details. For example Lasgol leaves his friend’s castle extra early for school, but is the last one to arrive at the ship.
Other details and phrases are repeated frequently. “Turned red as a tomato” is used a great many times in this book alone.

Good storyline
Revisado: 09-26-23
Francine Rivers writes an engaging story set in the late 1800s in the West. Katherine is a single woman who has to make her way in a world set against the independence of women. Twists and turns keep the story flowing.
The narrator did okay. She never paused between different settings, which gave cause for confusion. I thought she read a little slow, but I think that is personal preference. I was thankful Audible could increase the speed.

The Spiritual World Intersects with our world
Revisado: 06-29-23
This first book of The Wars of the Realm series sparks an exciting drama that surrounds Drew Carter, an atheist with a lot of reason to believe God does not exist or care.
Through a mishap, Drew is able to see into a new dimension, filled with “invaders” in an epic struggle for control of our world.
The audio drama with different voices for narration, and characters is very well done. The story is engaging. Highly recommend this book and this series.

Typical Dekker, if there is such a thing
Revisado: 09-08-22
The story was a good story. The narrator did a superb job with voices, both variants, tone, and accent, to keep the characters distinct. In typical Dekker fashion, it is a story that takes a life of its own with twists and turns causing the reader to wonder what will happen next.
It is a book dealing with themes of light versus dark, good versus evil, truth versus the shadows of deception.
The main character experiences a revelation that gives her a choice between the “truth” she has always lived by or a “new truth” that gave her freedom she never experienced before.
Ted Dekker’s theology seems to look at some scriptures – perfect love casts out fear, and avoid others as religion. For example, Hell seems to be a man-made construct, whose purpose is to keep people in line and produce fear. While the words of Jesus are given to us to make us free, when Jesus talks about other things that are worthy of caution, that is man-made fear or religion. (I.e. Jesus talked about hell and eternal punishment many times, but His teaching didn’t center on fear.
Ultimately, I think Ted Decker revealed some things that many have been blinded to. There is a fear that rules people’s actions among believers in Christ. Those fears and reliance upon religious rules, may have a greater authority than the true words of Christ.
Although I don’t agree with all of Deckers philosophies or theology, it was a good read and I was challenged to rethink some things myself.

Maximus is a thoughtful review of a Roman‘s perspective on the final segment of Jesus life & ministry. Aside from a few historical research errors, it was a good story and worth the time listening to it.
