Too Many Narrators
Revisado: 01-05-23
I miss the consistency of one narrator; Tim Gerard Reynolds is an excellent and versatile voice-over actor capable of performing all the parts required in this story. The cast did a fair job, but each voice shift contributed to a disjointed effect. More than once, I nearly gave up on the book when another narrator took over from Mr. Reynolds, but I forced myself to stay with it to the end for the sake of a good story. My apprehension upon seeing the shift from a solo reader to a cast was not unfounded, and now I see the next in the series has a new cast, retaining only two actors from this novel. I am disappointed and will not purchase the next book.

Historia
The year is 1680, in the heart of the Golden Age of Piracy, and more than 300 daring, hardened pirates—a potent mix of low-life scallywags and a rare breed of gentlemen buccaneers—gather on a remote Caribbean island. The plan: to wreak havoc on the Pacific coastline, raiding cities, mines, and merchant ships. The booty: the bright gleam of Spanish gold and the chance to become a legend. So begins one of the greatest piratical adventures of the era—a story not given its full due until now.

Exquisite Detail
Revisado: 10-20-22
I spent two years of study on the South Seas Expedition and found that the author left little out. Moreover, I am envious of his attention to detail, and l am happy for the learning experience. This work was nicely done.

Historia
More than two centuries after World War III poisoned the planet, the final bastion of humanity lives on massive airships circling the globe in search of a habitable area to call home. Aging and outdated, most of the ships plummeted back to Earth long ago. One of the better dystopian stories with serious narration to fit the scenes. Good writing abounds in this novel in both style and creating the unexpected.

A Swashbuckling Tale
Revisado: 12-17-18
Like all good books, I was sorry to see it end. As an amateur historian of the Age of Sail and the Golden Age of Piracy, I found nothing with which to find fault or any discrepancies in historical accuracy. The character arcs are superb, the language is wonderful, and the detail brings imagery to one's eyes whether they are open or not.
The narrator is excellent, versatile, and performs pirate jargon like no other.

Historia
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.
