Historia
In the early '60s, in a seemingly more "innocent" time, a group of teenagers were lured into a supposedly haunted house. The place on Sycamore Lane has a morbid history, but that's just hearsay and rumor, isn't it?

"What are friends for? Friends are for grave robbing."
Revisado: 04-26-25
A story of nostalgia, teens, senior citizens, a haunted house, a creepy small town, secrets, and the power of friendships that last through decades.
Much of the story reads like a haunted house tale. With likable characters with interesting backstories. It turned into a bit of a jumbled gore fest near the end, but I didn't mind overall because I enjoyed the journey. The story didn't end quite the way I had hoped, but few good stories actually do. Definitely worth the Reed.
Also excellent narration with a creepy voice mashup for the villains.

9yo Daughter Loves
Revisado: 01-10-25
This is a funny and suspenseful adventure. Creates a whole secret inner world for house cats and their animal neighbors.
Originally I got this when my kiddo was 7, but she found it too scary then. Because of a coyote. She rediscovered this book just before turning 9 and it was a much better fit then. She listens and re-listens to it now and immediately asked for the sequel.

Rachel's parents have a simple rule: five hours of sleep. No more, no less. But after six months of this "simple" schedule, Rachel's exhausted mind plays tricks on her. She sees things that can't be real. Like the Boogeyman in her little brother's room. When no one believes her, Rachel takes matters into her own hands. But her sleep-deprived state blurs the line between reality and nightmare. Is the grotesque figure with too many teeth just a hallucination? Or is there something sinister lurking in the shadows?

TW domestic violence
Revisado: 10-28-24
The writing is excellent. The story is gripping and plays upon just about every childhood fear in the best of ways.
It's a story essentially about child abuse though so please know that before reading. I felt a little blindsided by that and it took some of the fun out of a story that I otherwise enjoyed.

Mom & Daughter Both Loved
Revisado: 10-23-24
I got this for my 8YO daughter cuz she had loved a previous book by Muthing. I read ahead of her to make sure it wasn't too scary, and ended up finishing myself because I just HAD to know how it would end. While I loved Arts and Crafts more, kiddo seemed to enjoy them equally. This one scared her a bit more, and kept her up late listening one night.
She liked the monster and comparing and contrasting the characters from this story and her previous Muthing read.
In her own words - "I love it! It was scary and cool.:

Great Story, Okay Narration
Revisado: 10-19-24
Gripping story about amusement park staff fighting to stay alive in the aftermath of an Fl hurricane. I enjoyed the creativity in the different characters and their related tribes and challenges.
The narration was trying to approximate a realistic interview-type style, but it ended up annoying me and taking me out of the story. The constant throat-clearing made me want to grab my mask and hand sanitizer.

The Almost Perfect Partner
Revisado: 10-18-24
When I read the title of this book I thought it would be kind of silly. But it had more depth and plot than I'd imagined.
First I struggled to relate to the characters because the opening scene has a drunken bros party atmosphere. But as the story unfolded I connected with the characters more and Got invested into what would happen next.
I kind of fell in love with the main character even with all the flesh-eating. He really seemed like the perfect partner except for… that One thing. It's a sign of a quality author I think when you care about a character even when they do some horrific things.

Mom and Daughter Loved
Revisado: 09-28-24
"I loved it! It was cool. They need to make more books like arts and crafts." - written by A, age 8.
Mom's note:
I bought this for my third grader because I'm an avid horror reader myself and she's starting to get interested. She literally loves crafting so I bought her this book to listen to while her hands were busy creating. I started reading a couple chapters to kind of preview it and make sure it wasn't too old for her Since the characters were middle schoolers. But I was so drawn into the story I finished the whole thing by myself before she even started it. The story was gripping and I had to know what happened. It was a little predictable in places, but I didn't care because The journey was worth it. I feel like the story is just sweet enough, and just spooky enough, for whole families of horror fans to enjoy together.

A bit predictable and had a cliffhanger at the end. Overall though it does an excellent job at setting the scene and providing a slow burn creepiness. loved the interesting cast of characters too.

A group of strangers is pitted against one another in Matt Shaw’s latest extreme horror. The game is simple. Each of the contestants is asked a question: How much to complete a certain task? They then have two minutes to name a price, but if they go too high and their fellow contestants are cheaper, they have just priced themselves out of the game. The trick is to go high enough to win a good amount of money but low enough to ensure you are the winner.

Kept me up Reading
Revisado: 09-16-24
I'm not sure I've read a book quite like this before. It's unique and gross and completely fascinating. I read it all in one night because I just had to know what would happen next. I love the odd collection of characters and the what-if type scenarios this got me thinking about.
