Too often successful writers grow tired of their creations, but will crank out the next story to please publishers and public. Poirot is retired at this point in time. Christie had created him 33 years before. And yet, he is just as fresh, the writing just as crisp as The Mysterious Affair at Styles published in 1920. Highly recommended listening.

I really wanted to like this book. The descriptions and stories of the sea creatures were amazing. The history of how San Francisco was built was eye opening. But I had no idea it was a coming of age story interspersed with the wonders of nature. It would translate well to a mini series about a gal finding out who she is in the big scheme of life. However, as the descriptions led me to believe it was about five sea creatures, their lives and environment, I stopped mid-way through utterly disappointed because I wasn’t in the mood for young adult angst.

A beautiful tale intertwining several lives over three generations, this is as good as any Agatha Christie. Redemption. Forgiveness. Understanding. Old friends and new beginnings. A good listen, and in my opinion, would make it an engaging PBS Masterpiece series.

He is a cop with common sense, trying to do what is right, even if it isn’t to the letter of the law. The Montalbano stories captures gritty reality, ( the most gruesome is a trick story; you’ll know it when you hear it .) The stresses, the pleasures and personal lives of police and the people they serve are laid out with enough detail to picture the scenes . My only question to the director is why have a cop with a Brooklyn accent? Yes, it does conjure an image , but it was a tad distracting .The descriptions of Italian landscape and food alone can serve as an introduction to Italy or bring back very fond memories if you have them.

Wish I had heard of Paul Noble before I had purchased any other course. Practical and engaging, this is great starter for words and sentence structure that has you able to communicate the basics when traveling. I’ve purchased the longer course.

As much as the books are enjoyable to read, giving time to pause and reflect, listening to this great body of work is a profound experience .

This could be considered a good beach read. Or if you really like the romance mystery genre that becomes a Hallmark or Lifetime mystery of the week movie, then you will really like these books. I suppose it was my expectations that let me down . I actually expected the books to have information about teas as part of the back ground. Not that a pot of Earl Grey tea was served and the tourists bought English Breakfast and Earl Grey teas from the gift shop being the only mentions of tea. As Gemma runs a tea shop , I guess I expected a bit more variety. And I did not expect to hear more about the relationship woes than the mystery itself. Also, it is a bit much to have “typical” English desserts or behaviors described as such. Does the author actually think her readers have honestly never heard of sticky toffee pudding nor know that the Brits tend to be more reserved with their emotions compared to Australians, Americans, etc,. Maybe not the author herself, but the editor that wants her books published to a wider audience, does the stories a disservice by explaining what every Brit and most adults who’ve read a variety of literature will know. Still, the old biddies, her mother and the cat would make for entertaining lightweight television. And sometimes that’s all one wants on a Sunday evening. Again, a decent beach read or listen.

Beautifully written. In fact so well, that I checked mid-way through to see if it was an autobiography. The performance was endearing, hopeful and brought forth Joy’s inner strength and determination to want the best for herself and her boys. Jack’s story was equally endearing. Watching him grow over a decade was just as rewarding.

Riveting modern history laid out with perfection. Sciutto reminds us more than once that it is hard to believe what we haven’t experienced as even a remote possibility, such as 9/11. That simple human trait needs to be taken into account when creating foreign policy.

The brilliance of L. Frank Baum lies in his attention to detail. No fantasy is left unexplained. His charming account of the legend of Santa Claus is an American invention that fleshes out the jolly ol’elf in a way no one else has tried before or since. My only complaint is that there should have been additional voices performing all the characters. The narrator was an excellent telling the tale and as the voice of Santa, however a bit too heavy and gruff for the female and children’s parts. Perhaps the director wanted to make you feel as though grandpa was telling the story? All in all, a very pleasant listen .
