Historia
This mind-bending tour of metaphysics applies philosophy to the forefront of today's knowledge. Over the course of 24 fascinating lectures, Professor Johnson thinks through the big questions about humans and the universe: The relationship between the mind and the brain, how consciousness emerges from neurochemical processes, the existence of God, human free will, the possibility of time travel, and whether we live in a multiverse or even a computer simulation.

Good Overview - possibly dense for some
Revisado: 10-27-20
The Great Courses are generally pretty good for newbies on given topics. Since I don't have a lot of formal philosophy training it was interesting to hear someone articulate metaphysics questions verbally. This material might be a little dense for people who don't ponder existential questions

This is a good series of lectures for the general state of internet security circa 2020. I was hoping for something a little more technical, but if you don't have a degree in a technology field you'll find it interesting and helpful.

Historia
With Give and Take, Adam Grant not only introduced a landmark new paradigm for success but also established himself as one of his generation’s most compelling and provocative thought leaders. In Originals he again addresses the challenge of improving the world, but now from the perspective of becoming original: choosing to champion novel ideas and values that go against the grain, battle conformity, and buck outdated traditions. How can we originate new ideas, policies, and practices without risking it all?

Dishonest Self-Obsessed Author
Revisado: 03-23-20
Grant is definitely accomplished but comes off as dishonest, arrogant, and sneaky. For example, he demonstrates the "mere exposure effect" using a made up word and encourages readers to use it without reservation or nuance. Cialdini reviews this concept in his books on persuasion with much more detail on how to wield it without hazarding it's known drawbacks. Grant references Cialdini's persuasion works in this text so either does not understand it, or is more determined to demonstrate his own cleverness than to help his audience.
Also, I'm not a fan of his "ends justify the means" view on politics. He seems enamored with the tactics used by the suffragettes by allying themselves with the prohibitionists. Prohibition was one of the greatest crimes ever perpetrated in the United States, especially when you realize that poisoned alcohol was part of the government's strategy to curb alcohol consumption. Certainly there were better examples of suffragette tactics and strategy.
There's good information in the book, but good luck untangling the truth from the lies and uncovering the Grant's ommissions.

Historia
In The End Is Always Near, Dan Carlin looks at questions and historical events that force us to consider what sounds like fantasy; that we might suffer the same fate that all previous eras did. Will our world ever become a ruin for future archaeologists to dig up and explore? The questions themselves are both philosophical and like something out of The Twilight Zone.

Historia
Does nature really make us feel better? The 3-Day Effect takes a look at the science behind why being in the wild can make us happier, healthier, and more creative. Whether it’s rafting down Utah’s Green River, hiking in Utah’s wilderness, or walking through Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC, scientists are finding that the more exposure humans have to nature, the more we can benefit from reduced anxiety, enhanced creativity, and overall well-being.

Almost exactly what the summary says
Revisado: 07-07-19
I was expecting the author to get deeper into actual studies but the book is just a series of anecdotes. Anecdotes are fine when used to cement a concept to memory... they are not data. Metrics from 2 people are insufficient to quantify the benefits of spending time in nature.

Historia
Often considered the foundation of political liberalism, John Locke's Two Treatises of Government was first published anonymously in 1689, in the wake of England's Glorious Revolution. In The First Treatise of Government, Locke refutes the idea of divine monarchy, while The Second Treatise of Government articulates Locke's philosophy of government, which he based upon his theories of natural rights and the social contract.

Awesome information, pivotal text
Revisado: 05-10-19
I really enjoyed this book. Early modern British essayists had a world changing perspective. I like that they keep things direct, and even light sometimes.
Between Locke and Swift, this era used cannibalism as a reference point for civility. I find that makes the texts more entertaining... "did he really just use cannibalism to disprove the Divine Right of Kings?"

This is a great read and one of my favorites so far. My negotiation skills atrophied a bit since I listened to it but I will listen again soon. Used it shortly before going into a very important negotiation and it definitely helped.

I'm glad to have my girlfriend and her family to help me learn this. Apparently some of the pronunciations are out of Vogue in Terhan. Still, the program is helping me to learn more rapidly than they thought possible. I am starting to get the gist of conversations at family parties!
Enthusiastic recommendation for Pimsleur courses!

Why do some products capture our attention, while others flop? What makes us engage with certain products out of habit? Is there a pattern underlying how technologies hook us? This audiobook introduces listeners to the "Hooked Model", a four-step process companies use to build customer habits. Through consecutive cycles through the hook, successful products reach their ultimate goal of bringing users back repeatedly - without depending on costly advertising or aggressive messaging.

Fantastic Outline of Minimum UI Standards
Revisado: 09-12-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book is very useful for how to think about app and website UI. This was part of my Grad School Curriculum and it was so helpful that I presented the information to my company for our own app development... So, yes, I would absolutely recommend this book to a friend.
Who was your favorite character and why?
No characters, just psychological tips and tricks for software development
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Lol, a film out of a well written technical guide?
Any additional comments?
Everyone should listen to this audiobook or read the text version. At the very least it may help you to form more healthy relationships with you computer appliances!
