Historia
Lured by exotic gems and valuable oils, the crew of the space trader Solar Queen landed on the newly discovered planet Sargol only to find their most ruthless competitor there ahead of them. Still, they tried for fair trade, even according to the sly rules of the strangely feline, native Salariki. But after takeoff they found they had a plague on board, the treachery of someone who'd been on Sargol. Although they'd begun to run out of supplies, they couldn't land or they might start an inter-planetary epidemic....

I didn't realize this was a sequel to anything until after I was already almost halfway through it, so while I enjoyed it for what it was, I feel like I would have liked it a lot better if I had read book 1 first. I'll go back and read it eventually!

Distracting but not bad
Revisado: 01-15-17
Well written, but it was also such a blatant Lord of the Rings ripoff that it jarred me out of the experience too often for me to honestly say I enjoyed it. I'm hoping the next book is more its own entity. The performance was great, however; I likely wouldn't have made it through the book with a different narrator.

More please!
Revisado: 05-07-16
Usually when I get through a series where every book is this long, I'm exhausted and ready to move on to lighter fare. Right now, all I want is more, more, more! I can't remember the last time I fell so completely in love with a series, and am sad that it's over. Book 4 please, Laini?
Side note, I'm really happy we had the same narrator for the whole series. I get really irritated when we get a new voice with each book.

In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Karou must come to terms with who and what she is, and how far she'll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, mysteries and secrets, new characters and old favorites, Days of Blood and Starlight brings the richness, color and intensity of the first book to a brand new canvas.

Revisado: 02-23-16
Fabulous follow up to an already excellent start! I LOVE how the author brings out the story by splitting the events between the Seraphim and the Chimaera. So many interesting twists, and definitely several moments that had me gasping in surprise or excitement. As with the first book, the narration is a delight to hear. Each character has a unique voice that seems to be so natural. Can't wait to start book 3!

Historia
Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky. In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grown dangerously low. And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war. Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages—not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color.

YA but not YA at the same time. A wonderful mix of high fantasy and urban fantasy in the same vein as His Dark Materials, but with a romantic subplot that would make Shakespeare proud. Not yet madly in love with it, but very much looking forward to book 2!

Return once more to a galaxy far, far away with this sublime retelling of George Lucas's epic Star Wars in the style of the immortal Bard of Avon. The saga of a wise (Jedi) knight and an evil (Sith) lord, of a beautiful princess held captive and a young hero coming of age, Star Wars abounds with all the valor and villainy of Shakespeare's greatest plays. 'Tis a tale told by fretful droids, full of faithful Wookiees and fearsome Stormtroopers, signifying...pretty much everything.

Shakespeare and Star Wars - the best thing I never knew I wanted
Revisado: 01-13-16
As a lover of both Shakespeare and Star Wars, this caught my attention as soon as I came across it. I was not disappointed at all. I plan to keep this audiobook on my device for the foreseeable future, because like any good book, I know I'll be able to open it up to any point and become instantly immersed again.

Historia
Night Watch is a world as elaborate and imaginative as Tolkien or the best Asimov. Living among us are the "Others", an ancient race of humans with supernatural powers who swear allegiance to either the Dark or the Light. A thousand-year treaty has maintained the balance of power, but an ancient prophecy decrees that one supreme "Other" will rise up and tip the balance. When a young boy with extraordinary powers emerges, will the forces of the Light be able to keep the Dark from corrupting the boy and destroying the world?

Good start, great performance
Revisado: 01-05-16
The world-building and imagery were solid throughout, and I found myself identifying with several of the characters. However, the stories felt disjointed, and the character development and progression of relationships felt incredibly forced and like we were missing several steps. The author used time jumps to account for that, but it took away from the story for me.
The performance, however, was fantastic. Paul Michael's character distinction, as well as his transitions from narrative to dialogue, and his use of accents, made this book a delight to listen to.
I don't know if I'll continue the series, but I don't regret listening to this book.

Historia
Macbeth: A Novel brings the intricacy and grit of the historical thriller to Shakespeare’s tale of political intrigue, treachery, and murder. In this full-length novel written exclusively for audio, authors A. J. Hartley and David Hewson rethink literature’s most infamous married couple, grounding them in a medieval Scotland whose military and political upheavals are as stark and dramatic as the landscape in which they are played.

Great retelling, but the real star was the narrator
Revisado: 12-07-15
Macbeth was always one of my favorite Shakespeare plays, and I am a huge fan of Alan Cumming. The combination was irresistible. I loved being able to get into the characters' heads the way only a novel allows, and the combination of real history of the infamous play, as well as a few original details, was simply delightful. That being said, the best part of the whole experience was Alan's narration. From the first line to the last, Alan delivered a performance that at once was engaging and innovative, easily separating each character into a unique entity, and his natural Scottish brogue only served to further the feeling of being there as it happened.

Historia
Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

Slow burn with a great payoff
Revisado: 11-15-15
The performance was awesome, that's all I have to say on that.
I lost count of how many times I burst out laughing while listening to this, so if we're just going on enjoyability, 10/10 would read again! But the story itself needed some work. It started out being a fairly monotonous series of cause and effect events, but around halfway through, it really picked up, got more complicated, and finally drew me into the plot. I'm hoping the next book in the series has more in common with the second half than the first.
