Historia
When it comes to law and order, East Texas plays by its own rules - a fact that Darren Mathews, a black Texas Ranger, knows all too well. Deeply ambivalent about growing up black in the Lone Star State, he was the first in his family to get as far away from Texas as he could. Until duty called him home. When his allegiance to his roots puts his job in jeopardy, he travels up Highway 59 to the small town of Lark, where two murders - a black lawyer from Chicago and a local white woman - have stirred up a hornet's nest of resentment.

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Historia
During one glorious summer between the wars, the realities of life and the sexual ritual dance of the adult world creep into the life of young Margaret Marsh. Her father, preaching the doctrine of the unsavory Primal Saints; her mother, bitterly nostalgic for what might have been; Charles and Binkie, anchored in the past and a game of words; dying Mrs. Frayling and Lydia the maid, given to the vulgar enjoyment of life; all contribute to Margaret's shattering moment of truth. And when the storm breaks, it is not only God who is on the rocks as the summer hurtles towards drama, tragedy, and a touch of farce.

Great performance from the reader - beautiful book
Revisado: 04-16-22
The interpretation was superb!
Made the story even more compelling.
It is a beautiful story - in spite of a “speedy ending” … ie a lot happens in the end all of a sudden - it is a bit of a contrast to the relative placid story

Historia
A famous writer travels to the remote, windswept islands of Scotland’s Outer Hebrides looking for peace of mind and a chance to dispel his inner demons. On the way, a car accident throws him together with the raven-haired Doctor Kathleen McNeil. He also falls in with the Red Wolf, a man who lives by the old codes - some of them violent. As a love triangle develops, the refined, civilised writer finds himself pitted against the rough-hewn man of nature.

Excellent !

Let me start with the reading of the book: a wonderful experience ! The narrator did a fantastic work and created with it an immersive experience
The story: as always with Morris West it is a deep analysis of the human soul!

Very interesting - SUPERB NARRATOR!
Revisado: 08-26-21
I really enjoyed a lot the book!
The idea of parallel universes is very well brought into the thread of the story but a real merit of the book is that it makes one think about what is really important in life!
And then… the narration is SUPERB! Carey does an amazing interpretation!
