Historia
Although Scott Carey doesn’t look any different, he’s been steadily losing weight. There are a couple of other odd things, too. He weighs the same in his clothes and out of them, no matter how heavy they are. Scott doesn’t want to be poked and prodded. He mostly just wants someone else to know, and he trusts Doctor Bob Ellis. In the small town of Castle Rock, the setting of many of King’s most iconic stories, Scott is engaged in a low-grade - but escalating - battle with the lesbians next door whose dog regularly drops his business on Scott’s lawn. One of the women is friendly; the other, cold as ice.

Not as bad as Sandra Burr. The thing that bugged me most was the way he pronounced Tas’s name. It’s Taz not Toss.

Where is the fabulous acting when know and love?
Revisado: 07-13-21
The story is wonderful. However, it sounds like Gillian Anderson is bored out of her mind the whole story. Completely monotone. Sounds like the next book is the same. Save the credit, read the book instead. It’s worth reading for sure.

Historia
Located off a desolate stretch of Interstate 50, Desperation, Nevada, has few connections with the rest of the world. It is a place, though, where the seams between worlds are thin. And it is a place where several travelers are abducted by Collie Entragian, the maniacal police officer of Desperation. Entragian uses various ploys for the abductions, from an arrest for drug possession to "rescuing" a family from a nonexistent gunman.

Epic Novel of Feudal Japan
Revisado: 05-04-13
What made the experience of listening to Shogun the most enjoyable?
Even though it is such a long novel, I truly wished it would never end. It's a sweeping epic about feudal Japan. Such wonderful detail about everything from the lowliest peasant to the samurai. Bonus: you get to pick up a few phrases of Japanese along the way.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I loved Toranaga. Masterful chess player in the game of life and death! Such a strategist.
Which character – as performed by David Case – was your favorite?
Again Toranaga. He seemed to bring him to life. I could even picture Toshiro Mifune from the movie as David Case narrated him.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Would love to see it remade! I'm not good at tag lines so I'm not even gonna try...
Any additional comments?
I know some people had trouble with the narrator. Once he get past the first 30 minutes or so (primarily the Dutch characters) he seems to find his groove. I was please with the different Japanese voices(male and female) and I thought he read Father Alvito and Rodriguez very well too. Again, Toranaga was his best. If you end up liking the way he reads Blackthorn, I recommend listening to the Audiobiography of Henry VIII by Margaret George. He does a masterful performance with that book.

Great Story, Good Narrator
Revisado: 12-06-12
Would you listen to The Pillars of the World again? Why?
I am actually listening to the series a second time right now. The story is wonderfully told (the 2nd and the 3rd are even better) Like many of Anne Bishop's characters, these are ones that you are really able to grow attached to. I really wish she would write more in this series.
What did you like best about this story?
I love the bantering that happens between the male and female characters. There are quite a few "laugh out loud" moments.
What does Erik Synnestvedt bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Honestly, he took a few chapters to get used to. There was always this sort of "inflection" at the end of each sentence that was annoying at first when he was just reading non-dialogue stuff. However, once he started getting into the characters voices, he really does quite well and didn't find the inflection annoying anymore. (I still like John Sherian best for Anne Bishop's books)
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Defnitely! I would love to be able to listen to all 3 books in the series in one sitting. Alas, I must have a job to be able to pay for my book habit.
Any additional comments?
Listen to all 3 books! The first is a good tale but it really just sets the background for the other 2 which are awesome!
