My heart truly aches for Shari, and all of the Franke children. Shari is just two years older than my own first born. I can't wrap my mind around the things she and her siblings have endured at the hands and lips of the person who is supposed to be your protection, and sounding board.

My heart aches for the religious trauma she has endured, it is written all through this book. I hope she only finds peace and and healing in her future

I listen to audiobooks often, and when I am going to sleep I just set a timer. I did not get sleep when I tried to listen to this one at bedtime to wind down. I was so engaged and enthralled! From the stories themselves, to the narraration 10/10 would recommend.

I have now listened to both Crystal Harris' book and now Holly Madison. I think Holly's was very well written and produced (I have to admit I didn't love the British readings from Lewis Carol quotes as chapter headers.) But, some people may love it.

I feel like the truth and biggest takeway is that High Hefner was a world class POS, and he traumatized many women.

i enjoyed listening to Holly's story and healing journey and she has every right to be angry and hurt from the experiences she described. I also think that Hugh marrying Crystal was a FU to Holly and done to try to hurt and embarrass Holly for leaving him.

As for the Holly/Crystal fued, I think it played out how HE wanted.

I wish them both well, and my curiosity is no more.

GND was on air during my late teen/young adult years. I was never a super fan but would watch it if it was on. I haven't thought of the Girls Next Door in FOREVER, it popped up as an ad and I remembered people said Crystal Harris was the killer of the show back then.
So, naturally I didn't know much about her-only that she secured the ring HM wanted.
Listening to this as a woman in my 30s, almost 40s, I am so horrified that we all glamorized the show.
I have read reddit threads talking about what a liar Crystal is, and how she makes herself a victim or paints herself in the best light-let me tell you-if what I listened to was the best light in some people's opinion i don't know what would be bad light.
I can't speak to lies, I suspect there might be a white lie or two in there, but I don't think she lied about her experiences with Hugh Hefner or at the mansion.
I never felt like she made herself a victim, she was in a way, and in another way she admits and takes responsibility for her part in being there and staying.
What I heard was a woman who is healing, and yeah, in a way grieving for her younger self, which is absolutely understandable.
I think it was worth the listen for sure.
Can we collectively ask ourselves, wtf were we thinking idolizing Mr. Hefner?!

I couldn't stop listening to these lectures. They were informative, fun, engaging, and the narrator's passion for the topic shines through.

I am a huge Trevor Noah fan, I think he is remarkably engaging when telling stories, and just talking in general.

He had always been open about his childhood when he hosted the Daily Show, which is where I first was introduced to him.
However, to hear so many stories of a life so far from-yet similar to those who grew up in poverty in America was truly insightful and intriguing.

So glad he narrated it himself.
The only reason I took one star from the story was that my OCD wished it was told in chronological order, but there was back and forth between ages which I found a little jarring from time to time and it would take me a minute to put it back into the correct age/timeframe.

This was a good, to the point, overview of Swedish history. A lot of great information I didn't know. It didn't go too in depth on the topics, which is what ai was looking for. Any of the topics that stuck with me, I can now look for topic specific books.
