Historia
Richard Hanania has come out of nowhere to become one of the best-known writers in the nation in the last few years. In this book, he directs his attention to the culture war that has driven society apart and presents a stunning new theory about what is going on. In a nation nearly evenly split between conservatives and liberals, the left dominates nearly all major institutions, including universities, the government, and corporate America. Hanania argues that this is as much a legal requirement as it is an issue of one side triumphing in the marketplace of ideas.

boring book

i've read a lot of economic books from audible. this was among the most boring i've ever listened to. skip over this selection. anything by great courses or thomas sowell or a host of other authors is a lot more engaging and illuminating.

Historia
Before the being called the Emperor revealed himself, before the rise of the aeldari, before the necrontyr traded their flesh for immortal metal, the world was born in violence. Even when they inhabited bodies of flesh, Trazyn the Infinite and Orikan the Diviner were polar opposites. Trazyn, a collector of historical oddities, presides over a gallery full of the most dangerous artefacts - and people - of the galactic past. Orikan, a chronomancer without peer, draws zodiacs that predict and manipulate the future.

Largely Lives Up to the Hype
Revisado: 05-18-22
This book has received a lot of adulation. I wasn't that into the narratives of the Necrons, but I thought I'd read this based on the buzz I was hearing about this book. Honestly- it was legitimately good.
I first need to mention the first half of the book was actually somewhat underwhelming. The fight scenes are written in a somewhat circumstantial manner that does not port that well to the spoken word of audible. I honestly thought about not finishing the book. However I soldiered on, and changed my opinion of the book very quickly.
At around the mid point of the book, (minor spoiler) Trazyn and Orikan need to join forces. At this point, the book started holding my attention much more easily. The plot points and characterization from here on out were written so well that the book became a true pleasure to read. The epilogue was a little awkward, but overall, this book was an impressive achievement. I'll also mention Richard Reed's narration and ability to master the voices of so many different characters (male and female) was quite impressive.
I'm into Trazyn and Orikan- even if I'm still not that into the rest of the Necron civilization!

Marxism is a term that many people freely use, but few seem to grasp its implications. Sowell's book is the antidote to this problem. He writes in a fluid and easy-to-follow manner, leading the listener through the Marxian scheme of ideas. Along the way, he shatters some existing interpretations of Marx-interpretations that have developed through repetition rather than through scholarship.

Well researched but...
Revisado: 05-01-22
... The philosophical underpinnings of Marxism was admittedly not of great subject interest for me. I realized that shortly after starting the book and had originally gotten it largely since Thomas Sowell wrote it. I elected to finish it largely for the latter reason as well. It's well researched (as one would expect from Thomas Sowell), but I'm just not that interested in it.

In The Accidental Superpower, international strategist Peter Zeihan examines how geography, combined with demography and energy independence, will pave the way for one of the great turning points in history, and one in which America reasserts its global dominance. No other country has a greater network of internal waterways, a greater command of deepwater navigation, or a firmer hold on industrialization technologies than America.

Very well researched book
Revisado: 03-30-22
One of Peter Zeihan's core theses is that America will further isolate itself from the rest of the world if it so chooses and that America (largely aided by incredible geography and shale abundance) will further become an economic superpower while the rest of world largely languishes. I don't know if I completely agree with the idea that America will be so inclined to isolate itself in that scenario, but I am really impressed with how well researched and how well articulated Mr. Zeihan's points are.
This book is an excellent primer for his overall world philosophy and is a must read for anyone with any interest in geopolicits and world economics.
