One of the best reads in a long time
Revisado: 04-29-24
I love how the book began just as much as how it ended. I never once felt like the book was boring or that it dragged on. The character development was phenomenal and I felt like I was transported into their world. Highly recommend!

Enchanting!
Revisado: 12-07-23
This book is almost as good as Under the Whispering Door, which is one of my favorite books of all time. I loved the characters in this story and thought Klune did a fantastic job at building out their profiles. If only there were more Helens and Arthurs in the world!!!

Fun and light beach read. A bit predictable but I really enjoyed it. Recommend if you’re going on vacation and want something fun.

I made the mistake of reading this book when I was starting my third trimester so I had already made a lot of these decisions. Therefore, I didn’t think it was as helpful as it could have been. However, I plan to read her baby book now so that I am prepared!

Wonderful story but quite long
Revisado: 04-13-22
The story and performance were well done. I found myself connected to the characters and rooting for protagonists. During every listening session, I felt transported to a different world. However, I thought the book could have been five hours shorter. The book felt much longer than needed.

What to listen to after What to Expect.... A badass, feminist, and personal deep-dive into the science and culture of pregnancy and early motherhood that debunks myths and dated assumptions, offering guidance and camaraderie to women navigating one of the biggest and most profound changes in their lives. Like most first-time mothers, Angela Garbes was filled with questions when she became pregnant. What exactly is a placenta? How does a body go into labor? Why is breast best? What are the signs and effects of postpartum depression?

Not the best, not the worst
Revisado: 03-23-22
This book was a recommendation so I gave it a try. I was hoping it would help feed my excitement for my first pregnancy while giving me practical and helpful advice on my journey. Instead, I found that it focused on the hard, uncomfortable parts of pregnancy. Perhaps I am alone in this but I would prefer to deal with the negative when it comes… especially since everyone’s journey is unique.
I finished the book feeling more anxious, less excited, and jaded.

One of the best books I have listened to
Revisado: 11-23-21
This book was wonderful! I loved it from the first page to the last. The characters kept my attention and made me fall in love with them. I was excited to listen to a book that had a unique story but did not expect to love this book as much as I did. I hope they make a movie, I hope they wrote a sequel… I am not ready to move on from Wallace’s story! If only every book were like this one …

Historia
This Pulitzer Prize-winning classic tells the poignant tale of a Chinese farmer and his family in old agrarian China. The humble Wang Lung glories in the soil he works, nurturing the land as it nurtures him and his family. Nearby, the nobles of the House of Hwang consider themselves above the land and its workers; but they will soon meet their own downfall. The working people riot, breaking into the homes of the rich and forcing them to flee. When Wang Lung shows mercy to one noble and is rewarded, he begins to rise in the world, even as the House of Hwang falls.

Worth the listen
Revisado: 10-15-21
I enjoyed The Good Earth and thought the story and performance was well done. However, there was an aspect of it that did not grip me to constantly listen to it the way I consume other books. Perhaps it is a telling of its age (written nearly 100 years ago) but overall I thought it had interesting themes and characters.

I appreciated all of the different speakers, which made for a very good performance. However, the story left something to be desired. Overall it was good but it had the potential to be great.
