Historia
Lacey Doyle, 39 years old and freshly divorced, has made a drastic change: She has walked away from the fast life of New York City and settled down in the quaint English seaside town of Wilfordshire. With Halloween fast approaching, Lacey lucks out when she’s given a rare, ancient book that’s perfect for her upcoming spooky auction. But after the book is sold to a buyer, the mysterious book vanishes before she can deliver it. Even stranger, the equally mysterious seller has disappeared - just as a body turns up dead.

Love the narration and "whodoneit" cozy mystery
Revisado: 12-15-23
I abfolutely love the narrator, and keep listening to the series mostly due to to her soothing voice. But I feel that the character development of the protagonist has stalled. I am also really annoyed by the whole "search for her dad" storyline and protagonist's obsession with him. Enough is enough, I am in agreement with Tom about the matter. Also, if the author positions Lacey as a successful antique dealer, it is unrealistic that she would not get the items valued by a specialist, when in doubt, like with the book.

Historia
A single mother turns up dead at the bottom of the river that runs through town. Earlier in the summer, a vulnerable teenage girl met the same fate. They are not the first women lost to these dark waters, but their deaths disturb the river and its history, dredging up secrets long submerged. Left behind is a lonely 15-year-old girl. Parentless and friendless, she now finds herself in the care of her mother's sister, a fearful stranger who has been dragged back to the place she deliberately ran from - a place to which she vowed she'd never return.

Unnecessarily complex, distressing for animal lovers
Revisado: 11-19-23
I enjoyed the author's other books. This one, not so much. It almost feels like it was written by a different author. I found myself drifting off, not really listening at times, because the overabundance of characters and convoluted anachronistic storytelling just had me feeling lost and not caring for the characters much.
Also, if you are an animal lover like myself, stay away for there are some distressing animal cruelty scenes.

Not really a mystery, but more like soft porn.
Revisado: 05-15-22
Not my kind of book, but if you are into murder and sex and soap opera melodrama, go for it.

I didn't love it, nor did I hate it.
Revisado: 02-06-20
OK to listen when you ran out of a favorite series, but I won't get any more books by this author. The book is somewhat slow, the plot is just interesting enough to not abandon listening altogether. No serious character development.
