Captivating story hindered by narration

I really enjoyed the story in the characters. It’s a story of a family with complex characters. I was often distracted by the robotic sounding narration. I hate to speak ill of the narrator. She is a wonderful actress actress and I really expected more. Despite the narration, I stuck with it because I had to know how it ended. Overall, still worth the read.

A Great Way to Learn More About the Vietnam War

As a female military vet I can relate. I never really understood well the Vietnam war, and this fictional depiction of real events really help me to get a better understanding of what happened in the war and what happened once these heroes came back home. I highly recommend this book!

Sad, beautiful, funny

The story was so unique I don’t remember ever seeing or reading a story like this. The love story was beautiful and so sad at times but I couldn’t stop listening. I wanted to get to the end to find out what happens, but I was also sad to get to the end and not spend time with the characters anymore. My only issue is the breathiness of the male narrator. He is really good narrator, but I can hear him draw very sharp breath between his words, and it would make me feel like I was losing my breath. I know that’s a little strange, but it’s true. Otherwise it was great! I was recommending it before I even got to the end.

Honest portrayal of family

I appreciated the honest portrayal of family life. I could relate to the mom’s feelings of being taken for granted. I have never heard anyone articulate those feelings. At times it felt like a bit much so I gave the overall story 4 stars. I appreciate that the author was not afraid to go there. The narrators were exceptional.

Explicit sexual content & poor narration

The contents of this book completely caught me off guard. There is a lot of sexually explicit, vulgar content; more along the lines of erotica. The non-sexual part of this book was very compelling, and despite the poor narration by one of the narrators, I wanted to listen to the end. The narrator that plays Verity, the title character, was so unpleasant to listen to. Sometimes her voice sounded very robotic, and her “male”voice was so difficult to listen to. Again, the story was compelling enough that I suffered through. The end was not as gratifying as I hoped.

New found empathy

Prince Harry has a very beautiful, speaking voice. In context I was able to understand some of the British words he used that I was unfamiliar with. He was brutally honest and over shared a little bit on some topics. He came across as a resilient man who was willing to do whatever he needed to do to protect his family. You have to admire that.

Intriguing story

I appreciated the honesty and genuineness of these characters. They were discussing some pretty intimate feelings, concerns and situations, and nothing was too taboo to mention. It’s the best book I’ve heard in a long time!

Very honest and forthcoming

I appreciate Mayte Sharing the most vulnerable and intimate details of her life so that we can understand her and Prince a little more. It was probably cathartic for her to share details about her son‘s short time on this earth.

This book was so enjoyable because as a first generation Puerto Rican born here in the US and actually a resident of Philadelphia I can relate to Quiara. Listening to this book felt like visiting with a relative. I can relate to the joys and the pain. I was sad for it to end.
