Historia
From her cell in a mysterious convent, a woman writes the story of her life in whatever she can find—discarded ink, dirt, and even her own blood. A lower member of the Sacred Sisterhood, deemed an unworthy, she dreams of ascending to the ranks of the Enlightened at the center of the convent and of pleasing the foreboding Superior Sister. Outside, the world is plagued by catastrophe—cities are submerged underwater, electricity and the internet are nonexistent, and bands of survivors fight and forage in a cruel, barren landscape. Inside, the narrator is controlled, punished, but safe.

Something great is coming in A.B.
Revisado: 04-24-25
This was an incredibly intense little book. I loved how perverse and macabre the worlds Bazterica makes are. I truly think she may one day write a novel as influential as the Brothers Karamazov or Catcher in the Rye. I loved both of her novels so far, but simply couldn’t get into 19 Claws. I think she just needs more pages to play with. There is even a sentence in this book towards the beginning, about the lines of the characters writing being made of her blood, sweat, and filth (or something like that), and it was very illuminating. In a time when Dystopian Literature is so over-done it’s gross, she somehow makes the idea interesting and fresh. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next. Although I hope her publishers don’t rush her, and give her the time she needs to create something amazing once again.

Historia
A self-described loser, Koyomi Araragi is struggling at a prep school that he should never have gotten into. He has all but quit caring, but as a senior, he faces the chilling scenario of not being able to graduate. It's time to cram, but the supernatural aberrations that keep on popping up in his provincial town won’t let him be. Previously, our hero turned into a vampire and back, gained an acid-tongued girlfriend, and couldn't find his way home thanks to a lost child.

Sooo decent

I always saw these books in bookstores and thought they looked dumb, but after reading a description, and seeing how many editions there were I decided to check it out. Very glad I did, and the voice acting is pretty good also!

Waste of a credit
Revisado: 12-10-24
This story is from the perspective 2 sisters attending Princeton and joining secret societies in different eras. It’s also supposed to be about a murder, but they only ever mention it every few chapters, honestly most of the book is them both feeling like outsiders, then taking 3 pages to describe the emotion that hit them when they see whatever boy they are interested in. But that isn’t my biggest problem with the story. The biggest issue is how the voice and how they speak is virtually the same for both sisters, including the one that is taking place 12 year later. You can’t keep track, and by halfway through when I started not caring to look if I was on a maya or Naomi chapter, I called it quits. While I am at it, another issue I have is the whole smart girl at Princeton thing. They are supposed to be these super smart elite students part of one of the most powerful secret societies in the country, but they talk as if they are side characters in Daria. Reese’s book club used to be a good source for quality stories, but like everything else, now that it’s popular and super mainstream, it’s not so good. Guess I’ll have to read another Jodi Picoult

That last story made me a little dumber, and I love it. That little dig as Gillian Flynn was so on point. I wouldn’t read this as your first Karin Slaughter book though, it will definitely give you the wrong idea of what she is all about. Karin Slaughter rules! Send me free stuff!!

Historia
There's a girl at their school who is always ill. She routinely arrives late, leaves early, or doesn't show up at all, and skips gym as a matter of course. She's pretty, and the boys take to whispering that she's a cloistered princess. As the self-described worst loser in her class soon finds out, they just don't know what a monster she is.

I thought this book would suck when I found out there are over 200 volumes in this series, but these 2 little tales actually had me smiling quite a bit. It was almost like watching a manga in my head. So it’s perfect for listening to while walking the dog, or doing dishes or laundry. Also, gotta love a good palindrome!

Historia
It’s 1992, and ten-year-old Molly is tired of living in the fire-rotted, nun-haunted House of Friends: a Semi-Cooperative Living Community of Peace Faith(s) in Action with her formerly blind dad and their grieving housemate Evelyn. But when twenty-three-year-old Jeanie, a dirt bike-riding ex-con with a shady past, moves in, she quickly becomes the object of Molly’s adoration. She might treat Molly terribly, but they both have dead moms and potty mouths, so naturally Molly is the moth to Jeanie’s scuzzy flame.

I don’t think this book will be for everyone, but it was certainly right for me. This book returned me to a time in my life when everything was more simple, but much more confusing. I seriously can’t wait for her next book, but this will be hard to follow up.

Historia
Trauma victims are not new to medical examiner Faith McIntyre, but this one is different. The unconscious woman clinging to life after a hit and run is FBI agent Macy Crow. What the woman from Quantico was doing in a dark alley after midnight is just one mystery. The other is more unsettling: Macy is Faith’s mirror image—the twin sister she never knew she had.

Performed very well but a rip off of Karin Slaughter
Revisado: 11-06-24
Don’t get me wrong, I really liked this book, and it was performed really well. But the story is like… exactly like Karin Slaughters Grant County/Will Trent books. I mean, a super smart medical examiner has a steamy, but super complicated relationship with a super-badass law enforcement investigator? Oh, and her name is Faith.. like seriously, it’s the same freaking thing! Also, the way everyone’s brothers and sisters are like FBI agents is just ridiculous. Suspension of disbelief is fine, but like having both main characters with siblings in the FBI, and they are both somewhat rogue is just nonsense. They don’t even bring that up either. But actually, ya know what.. read this, the story is interesting. If we wanted originality we wouldn’t need a new Batman movie every year, and family guy wouldn’t be in it’s like 50th season.

Historia
Iðunn is in yet another doctor's office. She knows her constant fatigue is a sign that something's not right, but practitioners dismiss her symptoms and blood tests haven't revealed any cause. When she talks to friends and family about it, the refrain is the same—have you tried eating better? exercising more? establishing a nighttime routine? She tries to follow their advice, buying everything from vitamins to sleeping pills to a step-counting watch. Nothing helps. Until one night Iðunn falls asleep with the watch on, and wakes up to find she’s walked over 40,000 steps in the night.

Really good, perfect mini-novel
Revisado: 10-19-24
Horror, or in this case, horroresque fiction should not be overly long. This book has these tight little chapters that make the whole thing very digestible. I started this while driving, and ended up listening to the whole thing. I hope we get some more from Knutsdottir. This is the second Icelandic book I’ve read this year and they have both been great. Dark country, dark ideas ☠️.

Detective Angie Pallorino hasn't forgotten the violent rapist who left a distinctive calling card—crosses etched into the flesh of his victim's foreheads. When a comatose Jane Doe is found in a local cemetery, sexually assaulted, mutilated, and nearly drowned, Angie is struck by the eerie similarities to her earlier unsolved rapes. Could he be back?

Great for fans of Karin Slaughter
Revisado: 09-30-24
This book was way spicier than I thought it was gonna be. White definitely didn’t pull any punches when it came to graphic details, and I appreciate when a book can do that without sacrificing plot. But what really makes this book great, was the fact that the personal lives aspect of the book, was just as interesting as the criminal cases. I will definitely be listening to more books by this author.

Best short story book of hers!
Revisado: 09-15-24
This books was awesome. Very interesting dark elements and she was very skilled in the way she arranged the story. For fun, I would be very interested to read an alternate version of the book where all the stories happened in a linear path
