Historia
The Monarchs, the most powerful sacred artists on Cradle, rule with unquestioned authority. They are mysterious and distant, and catching a glimpse of one is privilege enough for a lifetime. To meet one is to come face-to-face with a legend. Now, they have all gathered in one place, bringing their heirs and greatest students together for a competition to determine whose successor is the best in the world.

The biggest cliffhanger of the series....
Revisado: 09-26-19
The series is epic in that it builds an entire world and fills it with characters that have a full range of emotion, history and an abundance of personality.
The series is easily a five star series when compared to others in it's genre. Based on content(violence, language, politics, etc...) it would appeal to a much broader audience than most epic fantasy.
The series tends to hold back one plotline or another for continuity and an enticement for the next in series. This could be considered the minor cliffhanger. The books also tend to be full of happenings, locations and minor plots that leave you with the impression of much longer titles.
This book, however great I personally think it, was lacking something. It seemed filled with action sequences and felt as if there was quite a bit of world building and character development left out. It was as if scenes were edited out.
Then came the full cliffhanger. Minor plots and major storyline were left more blatantly unresolved in this volume. I hope the Author is aware that this technique can hinder a series by increasing fan pressure and has the writer's constitution to ignore both fan and critics alike.

A worthwhile series and an imaginative author
Revisado: 06-16-19
Having read and listened to books one through five I find far less concerned with the series's impact on my primary and tertiary education than it's entertainment values. If considering the purchase for the first time I would disregard "helpful" negative reviews with no substance. Labeling such as "helpful" is admitting that a person's vague negative impression is enough to turn one's interest. On to the subject at hand...
As with all sci-fi there is an expectation that we need to suspend our beliefs. When telling such a story you can try explaining the technology or you can simply say "this is fact". As a reader it helps to remember that the author created the world and thus things are just as they say. As mankind does tend to attribute the creators of universes. We can enjoy the tale of struggles and triumphs in an harsh galaxy where trust, loyalty and candor are the rarest and most precious of resources.
This series revolves around a group of characters that are under constant threat in a sector so brutalized that altruism has been all but abolished. It is a harsh environment of tragedy, betrayal(a bit too much of both for my taste without a greater reckoning), and controversy. Bad things happen, perhaps too many. Evil gains power. Selfishness prevails. Even those some consider great falter. The heroes have a long dark road to traverse. So be warned.
What makes it worth the price of a credit or the addition of narration to the kindle editions is the overall story. Suspend belief, ignore the few holes and pretend you are not the ultimate armchair tactician or the illegitimate heir to Stephen Hawking's research and enjoy being told as tale. These are the type of books that hold their value in their concepts. Said value measured in the number of times you think the word "cool".
In summary, the author is flawed(as we all are) and still growing as a writer but ultimately imaginative and willing to share the interesting entertaining worlds he creates. The work is, as I've said before, a look into the lives of the characters not a simple telling of a series of entertaining events. Verbose, yes, but I hope you find it helpful.

Somewhere it was written....
Revisado: 06-06-19
A quick warning for people who might wish one:
Somewhere it is written that In an apocalypse women must be molested, animal companions must die on the alter of pointless tragedy and the gallant must be mocked to(at least) the point you begin to dislike the other "good" characters.. There are some tropes that have lost all value to their genres except to feed a sense of devotion to the equation or satisfy those who never felt the intended shock but enjoyed the instance for its own harsh aesthetic(reqiring sociopathic tendency). I do wish some spoilers which, in truth, spoil little given the obvious and derivative nature would be included in more reviews or descriptions. Perhaps a generic warning.
This Author is imaginative and writes well. He offers creative stories, no more derivative than the vast majority of modern works. This is a well written, well conceived and entertaining series with a fairly novel approach to the monster creation. It's few categorical plot holes only require some suspension of belief. The books subjective flaws lie in the deviation from the Authors afore mentioned creativity to include genre tropes that have long become awkward and exhausting.

Escapism for all
Revisado: 05-20-19
Like most lengthy titles and series it is a good long look into the lives of the characters and the world the author has created, rather than the simple telling of a series of entertaining events that we find in shorter stories. The characters have depth and their individual stories are fully fleshed. The layers to the narrative are also their own fully realized features.
The Good and "Evil" of the book is also the old scenario of morality v. ethics. A moral individual tries to follow the guidelines or rules they believe to be true. An ethical individual will do as they wish while always trying to make the right(or "least wrong") choice in doing so. A useful analog for the main character is likely anyone getting the chance to live out a childhood Darth Vader(or any similar villain of choice) fantasy. When given the chance to play the role, I am sure we would want to appear as villainous as possible to serve whatever we feel is a greater good. That is the perspective upon which my rating is based.
The only critique I have for the series and warning for some readers is that the author is sparing when it comes to truly punishing the real antagonists. Some people may find this frustrating. Also some plot devices take multiple volumes to be resolved, others are still in limbo at the end of this entry. When these two issues are combined.........
Not quite worth the deduction of a star. The author has kept faith and we trust the series will continue for quite some time and these resolutions will come as they can be woven in, given Travis Bagwell's style of story telling.
Authors, remember that your fans are your fans because of the way you tell your stories. Your critics are critics because they wish to share their opinions(valid or not). Choose your influences wisely.

When Erik and Rugrat entered the ten realms they didn’t know what was going on. They only knew that they had contracted the two week curse. When entering the second realm they came to understand their character sheets, and part of the system that is called the ten realms. A place that the strong make the rules and the weak cling to them for protection and hope that they might be left in peace. They passed through the trials of the Beast Mountain Dungeon, taking control of it and becoming the leader of nearly 200 people.

A thoughtful series
Revisado: 04-12-19
These novels are not a simple telling of an entertaining series of events. they are a look into the lives and substance of another world. This world has been created in the imagination of a very promising storyteller and brought to life by an excellent dedicated performer. The overall tone is lighthearted and satisfying for those in the mood to hear their good guys to win and bad guys get schooled.

Just a warning
Revisado: 08-07-18
I generally don't review but feel it should be said that the comparison to the wheel of time(before Brandon Sanderson did whatever that was he did to the ending) is very loose. It could have been inspired by the wheel or even inspired by a second hand impression of the wheel but it would be more accurate to say it would share a greatly simplified and abridged outline with the work. This book is well written and a fine story in its own right. It should not be compared to other works in order to be enjoyed. The writer and theirs work will evolve and surely be appreciated by many. I wish luck and success to the author as I wish enjoyment and satisfaction to the readers.

Rezkin is an elite warrior who aims to restore order in Ashai after Caydean's attack on the King's Tournament transformed former allies and trading partners into enemies. With no army and only a ragtag group of refugees, Rezkin must wrest control of the kingdom from the mad and powerful usurper, who seems bent on destruction, and this may not be the biggest challenge. If he fails, the kingdom will be ripped apart, and Rezkin will have violated Rule 1 - to protect and honor his friends.

A fantastic voyage on uncharted seas.
Revisado: 04-01-18
To the readers:
This book continues what I feel is a magnificent tale. It is well written and easily followed. It begins to expound on the elements of fantasy hinted about in the previous books. It holds plenty of surprises and twists. As well some fresh takes on the common themes.
It is a pity that many reviewers prefer to complain that the story did not go the way they thought it should. Except that those very reviews made me more inclined to purchase the title for the unexpected journey. The real shame is the lack of a "spoiler alert" next to the few bad reviews.
To the authors:
Your critics are not your fans and should have no effect on your future writing. Even your fans are going to be taken aback from time to time when you break with their expectations. Your readers, however, will continue reading your stories because they are your stories and not the stories others would have you write. Continue telling the tales as you wish and your readers will continue to enjoy journeying with you.
