Another well-written installment in GS Jennsen's epic sci-fi series. I do find that I'm having a more difficult time staying engaged with certain characters and plotlines the longer the series goes on, but I'm definitely a "please only 2-5 books in a series" kind of reader, so the fact that I'm invested enough to still be reading this after so long is a testament to the author's storytelling. While not every character will resonate with every reader, I do think that there is *someone* for every reader to really connect with in these books, and I appreciated some of the changing dynamics and seeing characters interact who we haven't really seen interact before. Eren and Nyx in particular was a team-up I'd love to see more of.
The audiobook narration is excellent, as usual. I'm always impressed by how well the narrator is able to make each character's voice distinct with such a large cast.

An exciting pirate adventure

A fantasy pirate adventure with magic and airships a whole cast of diverse characters? Yes please!

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It's very fast paced from start to finish, and there's always some new conflict the characters have to deal with in addition to the bigger, overarching conflict of the story. Zala and Karim are our main POV characters, and while they are on opposing sides, I sympathized with both of them and was eager to learn more about each of them. I did wish that some of the characters' backgrounds and the magic had been fleshed out a little more or explained more. The focus is definitely more on the plot and the excitement of everything that's happening, which is fine, but there are lots of hints of a wider, complex fantasy world and I wanted to see more of that. Hopefully we'll get to explore those things in greater depth in the next book.

The audiobook is fantastic, with atmospheric sound effects that help you feel more immersed in the story and an excellent performance in narration by John Rogers.

Sculpt Yourself is a thought-provoking story told from the perspectives of three women and their experiences with a new drug, Lipamorph, which allows users to quickly and easily reshape their bodies. Each of the women has a unique perspective on Lipamorph and the personal, medical, and cultural issues surrounding its use. Although this is categorized as a sci-fi novel because of the fictional and futuristic-seeming Lipamorph, this really does feel more like a contemporary novel and the sci-fi elements are minimal. The focus is primarily on the characters and their relationships. It's a quick read but packs a heavy punch with its subject matter.

The author does a really great job of exploring the numerous issues the story raises in a nuanced and thoughtful way. What may seem black and white at first often isn't, and as the story goes along, we get to see some of the more difficult issues tackled about how society often tells women what they should be and then tries to shame them for not meeting expectations or for taking back their own power in those situations. I really appreciated all the discussion points raised. If you enjoy seeing feminist and LGBTQ issues explored in stories, Sculpt Yourself is a great book to pick up.

A short and creepy collection

I'm going to start out this review by saying that the cover of this is absolutely stunning. Haunting and captivating and definitely fitting for the genre. I'm not a big horror reader, but I've enjoyed some of Morgan's other work and seeing that this had such a great cover just drew me in even more.

Now let's get to the stories. In any collection like this, you're going to have some stories that stand out more than others and some that work better than others. Overall, the author's writing is solid. "The Job" and "Moratorium" were probably my favorites in this collection. I also really liked certain elements of "Charity" and "The Tricker-Treater," although there were other elements that didn't work as well for me. None of the stories felt particularly scary to me, but again, I'm not much of a horror reader, and I don't scare easily.

I listened to this on audiobook and I had mixed feelings about the narrator. My first impression was that her voice was almost a little robotic. I got used to it after a while, but it still felt kind of flat and off to me. That's maybe just a personal preference. I did especially like the narration of "The Job" though. There are parts of a Christmas song that the narrator actually sings in that story, and it was really haunting and added some creepy vibes to the story.

Overall I'd probably give this a 3.5, rounding up to 4. Some stories were more a solid 4 and others were lower for me, but this is a nice collection of stories that could serve as a good introduction to Morgan's other work, if you're just looking for a quick read.

Livingston Girls is an entertaining story full of memorable characters. I really enjoyed getting to know Rose, Charlie, and all the other girls in their coven as the story progressed. I was initially worried that I was going to forget who was who, but Morgan does a good job of distinguishing them from one another and giving each girl their own arc and unique personality even though this is a shorter book. I also really liked the magic system. It wasn't quite like anything I've ever seen before and struck a good balance between being concrete and still somewhat mysterious, which I felt suited the tone of the story overall. I did wish that a little more time had been spent exploring certain elements of the story, and the plot could have been a little stronger. It definitely felt like the focus was more on the characters here and the relationships that develop between them, and that's fine, but the plot seemed to take a back seat for much of the story and I found myself wanting a little more in that area. That being said, it's a great story, and wonderfully narrated on audiobook.

I absolutely adore the Tales of the Wendy books by these same authors, and this fits right into their imaginative retelling of Peter Pan with the same charm and creativity I've come to expect. I loved delving into Peter's origins and coming to understand why he is the way he is and how his relationships with characters like Tinker Bell and Tigerlilja came to be. I listened to this on audiobook, and the narrator did a great job of capturing the tone of a legend passed down from one storyteller to another over generations, which fits perfectly into the narrative. If you're a fan of this series you definitely want to read this story. It adds some compelling background context to the books themselves and the characters I've come to know and love.

I received a complementary copy of this book from the author and am leaving an honest review.
