Historia
In Russia's Last Gasp, Prit Buttar looks at one of the bloodiest campaigns launched in the history of warfare - the Brusilov Offensive, sometimes known as the June Advance. With British, French, and German forces locked in a stalemate in the trenches of the Western Front, an attack was launched by the massed Russian armies to the east. The assault was intended to knock Austria-Hungary out of the war and divert German troops from the Western Front, easing the pressure on Russia's allies.

3 rd book of 4 done on the East front in the First World War . Following along with troop movements is difficultt with out maps ( the book itself has scant few ) Sitting down to listen with a WW1 atlas really helps . The Brusilov offensive and the invasion of Romania are the high points . Buttar does an excellent job explaining the key players and politics of the warring nations. This series is one of my favorites . I plan on listening to this book numerous times . A+

Historia
The massive offensives on the Eastern Front during 1915 are too often overshadowed by the events in Western Europe, but the scale and ferocity of the clashes between Imperial Germany, Hapsburg Austria-Hungary, and Tsarist Russia were greater than anything seen on the Western Front and ultimately as important to the final outcome of the war. Now, with the work of internationally renowned Eastern Front expert Prit Buttar, this fascinating story of the unknown side of the First World War is finally being told.

Fantastic
Revisado: 06-24-18
Second book from Prit Buttar ( and my favorite of the series ) details the murderous fighting in the Carpathian Mountains and the central powers pushing the Russians back across Galicia in the Gorlice -Tarnow offensive . I read everything I can about WW 1 on the east front and this series of books are hands down the best I’ve come across. The author weaves an understandable narrative of these complex battles and the politics behind them .

Historia
The fighting that raged in the East during the First World War was every bit as fierce as that on the Western Front, but the titanic clashes between three towering empires - Russia, Austro-Hungary, and Germany - remains a comparatively unknown facet of the Great War. With the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the war in 2014, Collision of Empires is a timely expose of the bitter fighting on this forgotten front - a clash that would ultimately change the face of Europe forever.

Let’s hope they release the next books
Revisado: 01-03-18
This book and the next 3 books on this series are the best I’ve found on the subject of the Great War on the east front , a subject I find fascinating. . It touches on the Franco Prussian and the Austrian Prussian wars . It explains the summer of 1914 in depth in Berlin , St. Petersburg and Vienna . Finally , the majority of the book is the actual fighting that took place in Prussia , Galicia and Serbia in 1914 . A number of high profile personalities are also looked at in detail .
The narration is a bit dry but satisfactory. The book itself is A+ fantastic .

Historia
On July 1, 1916, British and French forces launched the first attack on the German armies lined up along the Somme in what was to become the defining battle of World War I. To this day, July 1 is often remembered for being the bloodiest day in British military history. Indeed, the British suffered some 62,000 casualties in that one day of fighting alone. As gruesome as that statistic is, it's just one of the many dark legacies left by the Somme Offensive.

Very " Haig-centric "
Revisado: 12-13-15
It is a fantastic audiobook but it leans towards the English in most cases. The Germans are described as incompetent and blindly flailing away during the battle where in every move that the Haig does is calculated for the greater good and what he sees far reaching . It goes against almost every thing I've ever read about Haig and his decision-making
