So many of the arguments seem so elementary... It's disappointing that the ancient Greeks were actually not that impressive.

For such a tiny book, this book is wonderful and will change or improve your perspective on 1-2 topics very likely.

I'll save you from a description, since the book basically is a blast right from the start. However, two minor criticisms I have: - Some chapters are a bit repetitive or very similar to previous ones - I wish he had invested a bit more time and effort into citing more references, specially in citing other books from which to continue our journey in this topic

Focus on the sensory, not interpretations

This is a very compelling book, and quite touching. I would recommend it to essentially anyone, however, this is more from a sage point of view than a scientific one. Marshall has gone through layman to psychologist to sage, and now he tells us what works best in his experience, which actually does converge with some other more scientific, experiment-based, data-oriented books. The root of it all is to focus always on the root of our communication, which I would say is our sensory stilumi, not our interpretations, which can often be misguided. Focus on our needs and feelings, not our intepretations and judgments. It's much healthier to try to resolve conflicts when exposing our feelings and needs rather than when exposing our judgments, which might not concur with what was being said. The book gives many examples of trying to deconstruct our automatic judgments into our base feelings, but I believe this will take a lot of practice.

Very boilerplatish.

And the book seems to try to cater to all experts, but 99% of the examples and discussions focus on advertising agencies. Different niches feature wildly different behavior, e.g., startups.

Only the first third of the book features useful stuff, the rest is very obvious even to newbies.

He doesn't even take the time to define most of the technical terms very well, expecting the reader somehow catch the nuances. Right from the get-go he is talking about "positioning" for example. Could you give us a very sharp definition? No. Could you work us through how this concept differentiantes itself for different types of experts? Nope.
