A Miss
Revisado: 11-07-14
I don't really like leaving a bad review, but this was a biiiig disappointment for me. The premise was interesting, something anyone who loves the fantasy genre wants to read about; time travel. So I stuck it out, with high hopes. Never got to the point when any of the main characters were endearing or all that interesting. Same for the villain.... meh. Then when I heard the line, "he is turning them into hobbits..." I did that embarrassed cringe alone in my car. Dumb. Weak. Silly. Embarassing. Sorry.....

Historia
After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

LOVE
Revisado: 04-23-14
I loved loved this book. After only reading the Book Thief by Zusak, I wasn't sure what to expect, as is sometimes the way when you fall in love with one title from an author, then to be a bit disappointed by another. Not the case here. I loved the story, the journey, the message. Funny, inspiring, endearing, I will definitely go back to it again.

one of my favorites.
Revisado: 04-23-14
I cannot emphasize enough how much I loved this book. It is an incredible story of courage, family bonds, self confidence, tolerance, and oh yeah, SUPER POWERS. It appeals to everything my inner nerd LOVES. Michael Urie is perfection, and special nerd BONUS for Stan Lee intro. By far, my favorite audiobook yet. I will listen again and again.

Historia
Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: the obedient child of immigrant professionals, a timid chubster afraid of her own bike, a Ben Affleck–impersonating Off-Broadway performer and playwright, and, finally, a comedy writer and actress prone to starting fights with her friends and coworkers with the sentence “Can I just say one last thing about this, and then I swear I’ll shut up about it?”

As a fan, it delivered exactly as I hoped it would. Funny, endearing, likable. LOVE. Mindy is my close friend in my head, as I fancy we have the same sense of humor. A girlfriend, if you will. Great job, my friend, felt like you were only talking just to me. Muahh.

Mattie convinces one-eyed "Rooster" Cogburn, the meanest U.S. marshal in the land, to ride along with her. In True Grit, we have a true American classic, as young Mattie, as vital as she is innocent, outdickers and outmaneuvers the hard-bitten men of the trail in a legend that will last through the ages.

I loved it.
Revisado: 04-23-14
What an unexpected surprise. I loved this story of an amazingly courageous, driven and self confident young girl. I did not read this as a child, but so happy I found it now. I'm going to keep it in my library, and have it magically appear on the next long car ride with my daughters. They would never pick it, but I know they would love it. And those are the best kind, really.

Historia
Before Liz Lemon, before Weekend Update, before Sarah Palin, Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: A recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live. Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've always suspected: You're no one until someone calls you bossy.

Seriously, what's not to love?
Revisado: 02-11-13
As a Tina Fey fan, I had high hopes for the book, and it completely delivered Not just a collection of anecdotes, but the story of Tina's childhood and road to the successful woman she is today. Of course her truthful, hysterical, friend in my head method of narrating the book is the deal breaker. I love how this was unexpectedly a girl power book while never meaning to be. Tina Fey, newly elevated BEST friend in my head, I love you.

Stays with you.......
Revisado: 01-03-13
Based on other reviews and recommendations, I stuck through what I thought was a bit of a slow start and back story. However, after finishing the book, it was clear that all of the details about, fascination with, and most importantly, LOVE of religion was such an important part of the fiber of Pi's character. I would say that faith, and not one specifically, turned out to be an unmentioned stowaway on the boat. I would not say that it is a necessarily religious book, but as I mentioned, it was a story that I couldn't shake off and led to great discussions with my tween girls who listened along. We all LOVED it, we felt as if we grew very close to, and became very protective of Pi, and even Richard Parker. It was exciting, heart wrenching, inspiring, yet desperate, and even at times a bit funny. It had everything that makes a book great. Excellent.
