Historia
Alden McCausland and his mother are what they call “accident rich”; thanks to an unexpected life-insurance policy payout and a winning Big Maine Millions scratcher, Alden and his Ma are able to spend their summers down by Lake Abenaki, idly drinking their days away in a three-room cabin with an old dock and a lick of a beach. Across the lake, they can see what “real rich” looks like: the Massimo family’s Twelve Pines Camp, the big white mansion with guest house and tennis court that Alden’s Ma says is paid for by “ill-gotten gains” courtesy of Massimo Construction.

Absolutely fantastic storyteller

Both the author and the reader are amazing. While this story was humorous, it was the reader who made this come to life and made me laugh so much.

Historia
Love, Lucy is the valentine Lucille Ball left for her fans—a warm, wise, and witty memoir written by Lucy herself. The legendary star of the classic sitcom I Love Lucy was at the pinnacle of her success when she sat down to record the story of her life. No comedienne had made America laugh so hard, no television actress had made the leap from radio and B movies to become one of the world’s best-loved performers. This is her story—in her own words.

Young playwright Melina Green has just written a new work inspired by the life of her Elizabethan ancestor Emilia Bassano. But seeing it performed is unlikely, in a theater world where the playing field isn’t level for women. As Melina wonders if she dares risk failure again, her best friend takes the decision out of her hands and submits the play to a festival under a male pseudonym.

Good story, bad reader
Revisado: 05-10-24
I had to speed the reader up to 1.5 to make it bearable to listen to. Even then, it sounded like she was reading with a lisp. I will stick to reading Jann Rowland books if Mary Sarah is the reader.

Historia
Rife with the indulgent pleasures of life among New York’s one-percenters, Pineapple Street is a smart, escapist novel that sparkles with wit. Full of recognizable, loveable—if fallible—characters, it’s about the peculiar unknowability of someone else’s family, the miles between the haves and have-nots, and the insanity of first love—all wrapped in a story that is a sheer delight.

good storyline
Revisado: 03-20-23
the storyline was good and made logical sense. the only problem I had was that the narrator paused too often in the reading, sometimes after every single word. I sped the pace up to 1.25 and it was much easier to listen to.

Historia
Once upon a time, a group of libertarians got together and hatched the Free Town Project, a plan to take over an American town and completely eliminate its government. In 2004, they set their sights on Grafton, NH, a barely populated settlement with one paved road. When they descended on Grafton, public funding for pretty much everything shrank: the fire department, the library, the schoolhouse. State and federal laws became meek suggestions, scarcely heard in the town's thick wilderness.

Great research and telling
Revisado: 03-16-23
We loved this book! The reader was very good, but the story was compelling. We live in NH, not far from Grafton, and are dealing with bear issues aa well. The combined issue of bear population and humans doing whatever they want brings it all into perspective. We are trying to get our community members to stop feeding the wildlife, because it you feed one animal, you feed them all. I will recommend this book on our listserv and hope it will make a difference.

Historia
Jane Austen's masterpieces are littered with unsuitable gentlemen - Willoughby, Wickham, Churchill, Crawford, Tilney, Elliot, et al. - adding color and depth to her plots but often barely sketched. Have you never wondered about the pasts of her rakes, rattles, and gentlemen rogues? How did they become the men Jane Austen created? In this romance anthology, 11 Austenesque authors expose the histories of Austen's anti-heroes. Dangerous to Know: Jane Austen's Rakes & Gentlemen Rogues is a titillating collection of Georgian era short stories.

Great stories worth hearing
Revisado: 03-08-23
I enjoyed these stories about our favorite Rogues when I read it years ago and enjoyed them even more listening to someone read them to me. I did speed up the narration slightly because I personally thought the reading was a little slower than it needed to be, but once that was done I thoroughly enjoyed myself every time I got in the car and had the opportunity to listen.
