Connecticut, 1666. An ancient spirit awakens in a dark wood. The wildfolk call him Father, slayer, protector. The colonists call him Slewfoot, demon, devil. To Abitha, a recently widowed outcast, alone and vulnerable in her pious village, he is the only one she can turn to for help. Together, they ignite a battle between pagan and Puritan - one that threatens to destroy the entire village, leaving nothing but ashes and bloodshed in their wake.

I would absolutely recommend this title. I really enjoyed the themes and the storytelling was well done. The composition as an audio book was also very well done.

Historia
Most people believe democracy is a uniquely just form of government. They believe people have the right to an equal share of political power. And they believe that political participation is good for us—it empowers us, helps us get what we want, and tends to make us smarter, more virtuous, and more caring for one another. These are some of our most cherished ideas about democracy. But Jason Brennan says they are all wrong. In this trenchant book, Brennan argues that democracy should be judged by its results—and the results are not good enough.

A good overview and hopeful too
Revisado: 04-17-23
An insightful analysis of what's going on with modern society. a Pandemic isolated us and opportunists sought to exploit our weakness and isolation and desire for tribe. this provides a hopeful view of what's happened and how to work through it without blaming anyone in particular. The author correctly identifies human nature as the root of the cyclical nature of the rise and fall of civilizations and instills hope for a way forward thanks to modern technology and political system structure. the big one might not be here yet, civil liberal society may still stand a chance.

beginners guide
Revisado: 02-15-22
Sick of these "ultimate guides" being written for people who don't already know the basics. This is not what it claims to be. It does not teach you how to actually perform anything, it just refers you to other things you can look into. It's basically a grift. Don't buy this book if you want to actually learn something. If you're a complete beginner, fine, but if you were looking for a "how to in detail" book, this isn't it and, in fact, such books don't really exist. Most presently available sex education books are complete garbage.

Code reading was annoying
Revisado: 01-25-22
Were I doing the audio for this book, would have included suplementary material and instead of reading the material in the lines of code, I would have referenced the table or figure numbers in the reference material and instead described the code rather than reading it. tell us how syntax works instead of reading us what the exact syntax is in this particular case. it was just very difficult to listen to. The performance was fine and the material itself was good, but the experience of listening to lines if code being read object by object and/or having to hear every character used including "space" which has to be the most abundant word in this audio made the experience difficult to sit through at best and impossible at worst.

Historia
One of the most influential works of this century, The Myth of Sisyphus and Other Essays is a crucial exposition of existentialist thought. Influenced by works such as Don Juan and the novels of Kafka, these essays begin with a meditation on suicide; the question of living or not living in a universe devoid of order or meaning.

Historia
Each of us has a dual nature: we are light (conscious) and dark (unconscious). The dark side of our personality - the “other,” the shadow side - is made up of what we think is our primitive, primal, negative impulses - our “existential kink.” Our existential kink also drives the dark or negative repeating patterns in our life: always choosing the abusive partner or boss, settling for less, thinking that we’re undeserving, not worthy. But it also is the source of our greatest power.

Pseudoscience bullshit
Revisado: 05-25-21
It's not like this is a bad book, I'm just past new age pseudoscientific bullshit. Sure some of this stuff will works, but not how the author and other new age practitioners think that will work. As someone who has spent a lot of time practicing and studying the occult, kink, and BDSM I just can't bring myself to support this work as being the product of a fellow well informed practitioner rather than as something someone with a degree in generating bullshit shat out to keep themself alive by manipulating people into seeing them as some kind of enlightened guru.
