Historia
The galaxy remembers Hadrian Marlowe as a hero: the man who burned every last alien Cielcin from the sky. They remember him as a monster: the devil who destroyed a sun, casually annihilating four billion human lives - even the emperor himself - against Imperial orders. But Hadrian was not a hero. He was not a monster. He was not even a soldier. Fleeing his father and a future as a torturer, Hadrian finds himself stranded on a strange, backwater world.

Worst parts of Dune and Warhammer 40k
Revisado: 04-24-25
This review will contain a spoiler, however it's somewhat minor.
Take the worst parts of Dune and Warhammer 40k breed them and this is what you get. I'm like 10 hours into the book and I swear the ONLY GOOD PART SO FAR is when Kat dies. And no, her death actually sucks balls. It's literally the only part of the book so far that has any gravitas behind it, any meaning. The previous 8 hours could literally be cut down to 3 hours and still get all the exact same info.
Everything else is just long winded expositions on this or that. Another somewhat important character dies long before that but it means nothing to the listener, the MC feels it though. But honestly if I can't feel it then who cares. (rhetorical question)
The narrator is good, and his talents are wasted on this book.

Story is good, narrator not so much.
Revisado: 03-09-25
The narrator is changed in book 3. My problem with the narrator is that he's one of those types that seems to take a breath at the end of every sentence and certain words so you're always hearing "hah" or "ah". It's annoying-ah as all get out-hah. I bought the first book for like 5 books on a whim because it sounded good.
The story is pretty decent and gets betterah. The MC is a nob goblin though. There are times I wanted to reach out and strangle himhah for just being a jerk.
Over all, if you can get past the terrible narrator the story is goodhah. I'll be picking up the next books in the series when they come availableah.

Starts out strong
Revisado: 03-09-25
This is a very unique series and it starts out really good.
But by book four it feel and reads like the author was just bored. Half the characters in the book get no closure. The author was just tired of the series and decided to end it.
The author does do a good job on showing how religion gets twisted and turned into something it's not. The female MC misunderstands things all the time but it always seems to work out in the long run. The "roomba" Spot, is OP from day one. The author tries to make it read like Spot is in danger, but it never is, it always pulls out some McGuffin to help it win the day.
If you want closure when a series ends, this isn't it. The MC and and Spot get it, but literally nobody else does and there are a lot of important characters in the book that are just, forgotten about.

One of the few times the anime is MUCH better
Revisado: 03-05-25
The anime made me choke up, often. The book did not. It simply didn't have the same impact. Plus the narrator sounds like he's a streamer the way he just seems to over do things. Kinda like a game show host I guess. His verve or tenor is just,,, annoying.
The book does cover more things than the anime does, the anime is just more impactful, the book tells you that Fran gets hurt a little, but the anime show you just how badly she gets hurt, but still keeps on fighting against all odds. The anime made me want to spend time with my daughter. The book just made me want to refund my credit.
And lastly, although I can't find the review now (I reported it for being a lie, but not sure if anything was actually done about it) the reviewer claimed the anime was full of F-bombs, that is a out right lie. If you watched and and saw F-bombs, stop being a tourist and watching fan subs. They're NEVER accurate and if you weren't a tourist you'd know the difference.

Revisado: 07-28-24
The story is great, love the anime as wellha.
The narrator is TERRIBLE thougha, he ends every sentence with "ah" or "ha". It's so gratingah that I'm purposefully doing it in this reviewah to show you how irritating it is-ha.
He does at least have a fair range of voices-ah and does girls pretty decentlyah.

It's Ok, I wold've refunded--
Revisado: 07-28-24
If I had to buy the books separately though.
The first book suffers from what I call "stat read-itis". Where the author uses COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY stat reading for filler. In the first few minutes the MC reads ALL his stats, then puts two points into speed and then READS THEM ALL AGAIN. He does that a LOT in the first book. I'd wager at least 20% of the entire first book is stat reading.
The MC also gets into the gameworld far to easy and willingly. I guess since he's a gamer it would be natural, I for one think I'd be just as willing but not quite as gung-ho.
Second book does much better with the stat reads but the story is just kinda bland. About 15% of the book is stat read filler but a good portion of that makes sense. As I mentioned the story is kinda bland.
Third books pretty good but lots of it make no sense. I can't tell you why without spoiling but the main plot is what does it. How in the H EE double hockey sticks do you find people in a world you know NOTHING about that has 8 billion people in it??
Pacing is also kinda bad in the 3rd book and It reads like the author just wanted to be done with it in a few places.
Over all the box set of all 3 books is worth a buy, but separately none of them are worth it. Especially the first holy crap it's a drag.
The narrator is "Ok" but he's only got a range of maybe 3 voices but again, he's "Ok". I've gotten hooked on Ray Porter and R.C. Bray and once you hear those guys everyone else is just bad or ok.

Anime
I'm 2 books in and with the exception of a few bits that are NOT story breaking or world breaking you can safely skip the book or anime for the other.
I watched the anime when it was a first run and it was good, but after 2 books it's a waste, there's really nothing here that wasn't in the show that's important. This ain't like hollywood movies that are drastically different than the book.
Anyway, I won't be getting any more of the books, and I won't refund the 2 I have. I'll just watch the anime and be content because so far the books really don't offer anything better or more.

And everything's going according to plan—until NSLICE-00P gets hacked and sent into the past to kill her own creator before he creates her. Obeying orders as always, she wastes the poor guy. Don't waste your time
Revisado: 03-09-24
Firstly I like litrpgs and the likes, I've got no problems with the genre, I do however have problems with authors that put stat reads in that take 23 minutes to finish. I take further great umbrage with authors who spend 12 minutes listing stats, one thing happens that does not change those stats but literally within the next minute reads those same stats AGAIN spending another 12 minutes.
This book is NOT 17 hours long, it's closer to 12, yes there are that many stat reads in it. The narrator also slows her speech while reading stats. Trust me, you can SAFELY hit next chapter when you start hearing stats and you will not miss ANYTHING.
Speaking of the author, she's great with accents, but her normal reading accent and miss pronunciation of many words grinds like no others. She calls "Qi" power as "Q" "I" power instead of CHI. She calls "HP" hay-ch P, while it sounds technically correct, trust me it's weird and grating. At least she says Mana correctly, instead of maaahhhhna or mona.
The story itself, it's trite and boring. It would've been better if the MCs "human" half would been more fleshed out or had a chance to come out but no, it's background character used for background tasks the AI half should've been doing while the human side interacted with the humans.
Also the MCs name, Nslice-00P, after it's repeated 50000 times in a couple of chapters you'll be hating yourself for it. A couple of characters eventually start calling her ZERO but that's so rare that you eventually come to grind your teeth when you know NSLICE-00P is coming up for the 14 time in the last 14 sentences.
Speaking of NSLICE-00P, the character only grows in attack/defense, but never really as a person. I don't know about you but I don't give a crap about robots. My roomba gets the job done, and now that it's mapped out my apartment it does great, but it's just a machine with as much personality as the MC has because the MC never actually grows in anything but attack and defense. It has no personality, no individuality.
I didn't do any research on the author but I can't help but believe this is a first timer who's never read and/or paid attention to other books in this genre, or paid attention to what readers and reviewers say about the genre.
I think I'll see about a refund. This was just,,, bad.

This is the story of Michael Talbot, his family, and his friends: a band of ordinary people trying to get by in extraordinary times. When disaster strikes, Mike, a self-proclaimed survivalist, does his best to ensure the safety and security of those he cares for. Book One of the Zombie Fallout Trilogy follows our lead character at his self-deprecating, sarcastic best. What he encounters along the way leads him down a long dark road, always skirting the edge of insanity.

This review is for the first 15 books
Revisado: 02-10-24
Up front, if I hadn't of gotten the first 5 or 6 books for free (they were free for like 2 months) there is no way I wouldn't of refunded the first book it was that,,, not exactly bad, just lacking.
Once I got through those first few I was completely addicted, the overall story and doing whatever it takes for family is what kept me glued and I bought book after book until the end. I'm a family man through and through and my family knows the lengths I'd go to for them. So that aspect of this series hits home.
The story has MANY holes, and the author has little to no knowledge of military weapons. I mean he knows some things, the kinds of things the most basic google search would tell you but others he's oblivious to and by the end he flatly tells you that in a "forward" for the final book.
An A-10 Warthog for example, the main gattling cannon/gun can NOT swivel but it sure does in his world for example. He at least knew what it was called.
The author is not afraid to kill off characters, and he sometimes tells you more than you need to know or what's worthwhile for characters that you're never going to hear from again, or will die on the next page. Several of the books I feel would only be about 75% of their size if you removed all the filler characters that are going to die. I really don't need to know what this dudes wife's name was when she was destined to die on day 1. I guess some probably like that kind of filler, I don't. There's a quote from Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium about death, I can't remember the exact wording but basically there's no need to use 100 words when something as simple as "he died" will suffice.
The narrator takes a long time to get used to, he starts out narrating the first few books like he has a mouth full of spit, but by book 5 I guess he figures out how to talk and he does a great job from then on. Still infinitely better than James Marsters. From book 5 and onward I don't think even R.C. Bray could've taken over and done as good of a job and that guy is amazing.
Anyway, TLDR, you'll probably be disappointed by the first few books, the plot holes and way to much filler but the over all story is well worth your time and by the end you'll feel like you've lost an old friend. IMHO.

Pleasantly surprised
Revisado: 01-08-24
I was leery of Wheaton's perfomance in this but he actually did a great job. He can't do female voices very well so he didn't even really try but the voices were good none the less, you always knew who was talking and he kept his characters straight.
The book,,, well despite a few instances it should probably be in the young adult section. It's thin but likeable I guess you could say. I'm pretty sure this is a one and done but if there is a second part I'll not get it. It just wasn't THAT good despite my ratings.
