Historia
Fire. Wind. Pestilence. Earthquake. Drought. Lightning. These are the six Decimates, wielded by sorcerers for both good and evil. But a seventh Decimate exists - the most devastating one of all. For centuries, the realms of Belleger and Amika have been at war, with sorcerers from both sides harnessing the Decimates to rain blood and pain upon their enemy. But, somehow, in some way, the Amikans have discovered and invoked a seventh Decimate, one that strips all lesser sorcery of its power.

Historia
In 1912, at the height of World War I, brilliant Shakespeare expert Elizebeth Smith went to work for an eccentric tycoon on his estate outside Chicago. The tycoon had close ties to the US government, and he soon asked Elizebeth to apply her language skills to an exciting new venture: code breaking. There she met the man who would become her husband, groundbreaking cryptologist William Friedman. Though she and Friedman are in many ways the Adam and Eve of the NSA, Elizebeth's story, incredibly, has never been told.

This book reveals a previously unknown, yet integral piece of the puzzle of the story of World War II. History buffs will marvel at yet another affirmation of how the Allies won that war by the behind the scenes decisions of a few that determined the fate of millions.

When life seems pointless to Norton, he accepts the position of Incarnation of Time. With the other incarnations - Death, Fate, War, and Nature - distracting him, Satan springs a cunning trap. Bearing an Hourglass is a fascinating, richly imagined tale that reaches beyond genre conventions. Science-fiction/fantasy legend Piers Anthony combines a gripping plot with a serious and thought-providing study of good and evil.

I guess I'm not a true fan
Revisado: 03-21-18
I somewhat enjoyed Book 1, which is why I got Book 2, but what a chore listening. I found Book 2 a collection of events and concepts involving time flowing forward and backward with convoluted explainations as to how, what, why, but especially when something had happened, is happening or would happen. The interactions Chronos had/has/will have with many charaters to be have been tedious and pointless to the point of agony. I don't think I'll be getting the rest of the series.

2044 AD. The German Occupation Authority has held the United States in a tyrannical grip for the past 100 years, ever since the Nazis emerged victorious in World War II. Loner rebel Scott Hanover hates the GOA for destroying his family and regularly defies its harsh rule. Awaiting execution in a New Mexico prison, Hanover is given the chance to "escape". He must travel back in time to 1944 to thwart the plans of the Nazis. The task is impossible, and no one expects Hanover to come back alive.

A light weight but enjoyable listen
Revisado: 02-27-18
An interesting use of "time travel" mixed with WW II history. A well-paced straight forward listen. On the downside it lacks any real suspense, espionage intrigue or action. Worth the credit when looking for a "I don't want to think too much" book but you won't miss anything by letting it pass.

Historia
They called it Satan's Circus, a square mile of Midtown Manhattan where vice ruled, sin flourished, and depravity danced in every doorway. At the turn of the 20th century, murder was so common in the vice district that few people were surprised when the loudmouthed owner of a shabby casino was gunned down on the steps of its best hotel.

Historia
Best-selling author Caleb Carr deftly combines historical detail with spine-tingling chills. The year is 1896, and a serial killer is loose in New York City. His targets are poor young boys working as transvestite prostitutes. The general public has little interest in the victims, but Chief of Police Theodore Roosevelt wants the murderer stopped. He assembles a clandestine group of amateur detectives to track the killer, but there are powerful forces at work who don't want the crimes solved.

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

A disappointing wanna-be sci-fi story
Revisado: 02-14-18
A story more to liked by adolescents who haven't read classic sci-fi. Too much extraneous, at times inane, banter that does nothing to advance the story. Too little actual interstellar war story. Almost at the end of part one and it's a chore not to just cut it off.

Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

In Currency, Wood has pulled off a first novel that captures the listener with a pause-registering adventure, while it addresses head-on the most pressing and intense global economic, military and political issues of our very challenging current times. Wood's real world experience on both Wall Street and at the center of the US Military Special Operations world, combine with his love of history and command of current global issues, to create a story that is as intense and gripping as it is timely.

Mystery/Adventure with a American Historical Twist
Revisado: 11-23-15
Mr Wood has written a tale that deftly blends American historical characters into a current day mystery. His use of real issues of today (the National Debt) and recent historical events (9/11) make for not only a thoroughly enjoyable story, but one that is thought provoking in today's political climate.
Mr. Wood has the ability to describe his characters in such a way as to bring them alive for the reader. This brought, for me, an emotional attachment to what they were going through. Not only in their trying to solve the mystery, but in the gains and losses in their personal lives.
I was in the grip of "Currency" up to the last two words. I wondered til then if Mr. Wood, as an author, would or wold not "chicken out". (You'll have to buy the book to understand) What I will say is he didn't disappoint.
I had not bought a book for some time because I was looking for something different. I found it in "Currency". So much so I bought his next book, "Sugar". I am eagerly anticipating the adventure.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

A Wanna-be Apollo 13
Revisado: 10-09-15
Would you try another book from Andy Weir and/or R. C. Bray?
Maybe.
What could Andy Weir have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Don't know.
Would you be willing to try another one of R. C. Bray’s performances?
Yes.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
It finally ended. (Joking)
Any additional comments?
In my opinion a generation growing up long after the race for the moon, not living through the step by step progress of NASA with all its' failures and successes, would like this book. Just like they liked 'Gravity', a completely implausible space story.
Looking at You Tube just can not match the thrill of watching a lift-off a Saturn rocket or seeing the first pictures of Earth from space or the landing on the moon LIVE on TV. I don't blame people for liking this book. It's not their fault they live in a CGI world. They were born too late.
But that's just my opinion .
