Historia
Ever since the gods of ancient Egypt were unleashed in the modern world, Carter Kane and his sister, Sadie, have been in trouble. As descendants of the House of Life, the Kanes have some powers at their command, but the devious gods haven't given them time to master their skills. And now their most threatening enemy yet—the Chaos snake, Apophis—is rising. If they don't prevent him from breaking free in a few days' time, the world will end. In other words, it's a typical week for the Kane family.

Frustrating narrator choices
Revisado: 10-08-24
I'm surprised no one said it, so I will and hope it helps someone.
I got the first audio version of the first book in this series a couple years ago when it was narrated by Kevin R. Free and and Katherine Kellgren. I enjoyed their voices and how they differentiated between characters regardless of whose chapter it was.
I just recently bought the second book in the series (Throne of Fire), not realizing that the Kevin R. Free and Katherine Kellgren versions of Chronicles have been discontinued and replaced with this one. I don't know why they made the narrator change, but the story is poorer for it.
I was mildly bothered by the lack of attempt to give unique voices to certain characters, but that's the least of my gripes. James Fouhey did a decent job, but I was disappointed by Grace's performance. A lot of mispronounced words, strange inflections on sentences that to me indicated she didn't understand what was happening in a scene, and sounded a little stuffed up, like she had a cold.
I wish I could continue the series with the original narrators, but haven't been able to find them anywhere.

Somehow Dissatisfying?
Revisado: 01-23-23
I'd say the second half was less appealing than the first book. Can't put my finger on why.

Solid Story, Excellent Delivery
Revisado: 01-03-23
Not sure where the few criticisms are getting their impressions. I found the writing to be beautiful - subtle and humorous, dark and tragic, happy and sensual. A few times I found myself wondering the assumed age of the target audience, for some character deaths are quite graphic, and the romance was at times evocative. In any case, I loved the nuance given to the presumed good guys and bad guys, and an intriguing plot twist at the end has me ready for pt. 2!

In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Historia
In the highly anticipated finale to the New York Times best-selling trilogy, dictators, prophets, and tensions rise. In a world that’s conquered death, will humanity finally be torn asunder by the immortal beings it created? Citra and Rowan have disappeared. Endura is gone. It seems like nothing stands between Scythe Goddard and absolute dominion over the world scythedom. With the silence of the Thunderhead and the reverberations of the Great Resonance still shaking the earth to its core, the question remains: Is there anyone left who can stop him?

Awesome story!
Revisado: 12-30-19
Very well told, and wonderfully written. There were many plot twists I didn't see coming, but were incredible additions to the narrative. So glad I chose this series to follow. This book will have me reflecting on its themes for some time, which is exactly what I want when I finish a story. Thank you!

Historia
Harley Merlin can sense people's emotions, among other things. It's how she snagged her first job pinpointing cheaters at a casino. But she has no clue where she got these freakish powers because she spent her childhood jumping from home to home in the foster system, and her father left her with nothing more than a cryptic note. Then she crosses paths with a terrifyingly real monster. Which is when a mysterious and annoyingly arrogant young warlock named Wade Crowley steps in, introducing her to a hidden world of beasts, magicals, and covens riddled with secrets.

I think I liked it?
Revisado: 11-12-19
The narrator hands down is what made the book for me. She did a great job bringing each character to life. To be honest, the main character came off a little contrived, a constant "I'm not powerful but watch how I immediately become the center of everything" trope. Some of the plot was predictable, but some of it was pleasantly surprising. I'd akin it to a trashy TV show you watch to avoid thinking about your day. Ideal escapism fodder.
