Historia
After the killing of a prominent mob lawyer, NYPD homicide detectives Jacob Jackson and Caitlin Grimes start receive chilling, written “rules” for how to commit the perfect murder. "Rule number one for the perfect murder: Evidence is your enemy. Leave none behind." Jackson (Reid Scott) and Grimes (Cobie Smulders) race to find the killer, setting them on a collision course with the city’s crime underbelly, and a perpetrator who seems happy to toy with them. “Rule number two. No crimes of passion. The perfect murder is always business, never pleasure.”

Interesting take on a murder mystery!
Revisado: 03-21-25
This was my first time listening to this type of story, It took me a while to get used to it, it was almost like listening to a TV show or a radio show rather than a book. I didn’t like the “commercial“ interruptions of music, but I slowly came to realize that that’s how they were telling the listener that they were moving to a different part of the story. All in all a good story, I liked it even more because it was included in Prime.

Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

Narrator is thumbs down!
Revisado: 01-01-25
I am making my way through the chief inspector Gamache series for the second time because I love it so , but this is my first time listening to this particular title. I cannot focus on the details of the story for the halting manner of this narrator. I feel like I’m listening to Judd Nelson trying to pretend he is overly intelligent (any Psych fans out there?) this is too much.

A complete crime fiction box set! Homicide detective Thomas Prescott may be retired—but a serial killer, a high-profile murder, an ill-fated cruise, and a chilling small-town crime add more than enough excitement to his hard-earned rest. This collection includes the first four books: Unforeseen, Gray Matter, The Afrikaans, and Show Me.

I really enjoyed the humor throughout these books. Quite frankly I almost stopped listening about five or 10 minutes into the first story, but I’m really glad that I continued. I was engaged with each book and laughed out loud several times. I look forward to other books by the same author. Performance was also excellent.

Surprising twists held interest.
Revisado: 04-20-24
Admittedly, I am reluctant to listen to the free books because many I have listened to have had annoying readers or thin plot or just an interesting storytelling. I was a little wary after the first chapter, but I had no credits to spend on books from authors I knew so I plunged ahead, and I’m so glad I did! The mystery was intriguing, and even though there were some outlandish parts to it, it was still ultimately believable. The romance was not extremely distracting and all in all joyful. I also very much enjoyed the voice talent. I will be on the lookout for more titles from this author and readers.

Great book!
Revisado: 07-02-23
This Paradise book kept me interested all the way through! Wonderful character development, although I feel like I want to know more about Travis! The only character in the book that I felt a little annoyed by was Stacy. She’s supposed to be a 21-year-old college student, but she comes off as more of an 18 or 19-year-old in my opinion. she has some serious problems throughout the book, but I just didn’t like her very much. I have enough whiny people in my life. I don’t want them to be in my escape books. Thankfully, while Stacy is integral to the plot, she’s not so off-putting that she ruins it.
Also, I am so glad that Claire Bocking is the narrator for the story!

2nd in Paradise Series is MUCH better than 1st
Revisado: 06-29-23
This book was overall much more believable, and I found the characters to be both endearing, and the story, overall quite romantic. There are triggers for those who have been in abusive situations, but all in all, I found the characters to be well written, believable, relatable, & the story was quite good. While I did not enjoy these narrators for the first Paradise story, they somehow rang true for this set of characters.

Had a hard time with this one.
Revisado: 06-22-23
Ok, I LOVE Rosalind James. She’s been a favorite author for years. I could go back and relisten to books she has written over and over again. However, I kind of hope that this is the last book in the “Mount Zion” series. There are far fewer sexually-descriptive passages than typical, but when they came along I found myself being a little uncomfortable. This story is about a 17 year old. I am a woman and want to hear stories about adults. I’m also getting a little tired of the fluttery, downcast-eye female. Thankfully, by the end of the story, the female lead is able to look the man that she says she loves in the eye but to me it takes a bit longer than it should. These are not the types of characters that made me fall in love with James’ writing style. If there is a follow up with one of the other girls described in the story, I may have to think twice before listening. That being said, she still does an extremely good job of setting the scene and developing her characters and getting you involved in the story. Warning!— incredible sounding food is described throughout this novel, so if you are trying to watch what you eat, you may have a hard time!

Historia
When discipline is your life, structure’s a good thing, and Owen Johnson’s got plenty of both. An All-Pro NFL center who’s also a cattle rancher? Yeah, that’s structure. His marriage didn’t work out, but then, he picked the wrong woman. A Wyoming ranch doesn’t look nearly as romantic up close. Not to a model, anyway. Next time, he’ll choose better. Not, for example, a 19-year-old ball of fire like Dyma Cardello, who’s just starting on her own journey. To become an astronautical engineer. After about five years of schooling. Which she’s focused on like, well, a rocket.

Harder story to buy.
Revisado: 05-29-23
There’s obviously a lot of fantasy that goes along with a Rosalind James, or any romance story but this one was harder for me to get into than any of her previous books, and I have listened to them all! I found the female lead character (still not sure if it's Dyma or Dyna-annoying) to be a little harder to like than most of her other characters. She just doesn’t seem to be as fully developed of a character. She seems to whine about the same things throughout the book and doesn't go through much evolution herself I found myself feeling sorry for the male character from time to time that this was the female he’d ended up with which is a strange way to feel. I skipped an entire chapter (tv interview) and missed nothing. The epilogue did wrap up and resolve some of this for me, but it still was not my favorite. Do I regret the credit? No, however, I do hope Rosalind James returns to some less-outlandish themes in future books.

Christmas is approaching, and in Québec it's a time of dazzling snowfalls, bright lights, and gatherings with friends in front of blazing hearths. But shadows are falling on the usually festive season for Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. Most of his best agents have left the Homicide Department, his old friend and lieutenant Jean-Guy Beauvoir hasn't spoken to him in months, and hostile forces are lining up against him. When Gamache receives a message from Myrna Landers that a longtime friend has failed to arrive for Christmas in the village of Three Pines, he welcomes the chance to get away.

I was an instant fan of the author and the reader’s performance through the first three books. I’ll admit my interest in the subjects, began to waver a bit after that, but this book and the previous novel have been riveting! Can’t wait for the next one!
