Jill McCorkle, a literary legend and fellow North Carolina native brings us a story of a hospice worker, Joanna and a circle of residents at the Pine Haven rest home in a small Eastern North Carolina town. The book in turn delves into each character's present day-to-day life and their past before they became gathered together to live out their golden years at the home. They fight, they laugh and they talk and talk. This book is very "wordy" and reads almost like a play. I had a little trouble trying to keep the characters separate in my mind at the start. This might be one of those books that are better to read in print rather than listen in audio. But in any case, thank you, Jill McCorkle - it was great.

I'm a huge fan of Rick Hautala. Hopefully Crossroad Press will release more of his early titles on audio. This book was not Rick's finest hour. This claustrophobic story deals with the main character's afterlife after he's killed in an accident on the way to committing suicide. Throw in the grim reaper, assorted wraiths, a pack of hellhounds and an evil relic that once belonged to Jack the Ripper. It's a true mishmash of darkness.

The narration was all over the place. I almost stopped the book before the first 25% had played out. At the beginning I thought the book was being narrated by AI because the voice sounded so processed, unnatural and robotic. At times the narration was quite good and well-suited for the storyline. If the narrator had slowed down his narration a bit, it was would have sounded much more natural and less like it was computer-generated.

First of all, I absolutely loved the first book in this series but this book was just "okay" to me. Fresh Hell was written as if it was first meant to be a 80's horror movie screenplay and then at a later time, converted to read like a novel. The overuse of the old song "What'll I do" grew tiresome midway through. All and all, the book was overblown and "windy". I do really like the premise behind this series and will for sure listen to the audio book of the next one. Maggie Hires did a really good job with the narration.

This is a collection of Halloween-related stories taking place in the small town of Autumncrow, Ohio. If you LOVE Halloween and enjoy spooky short stories, you're in for a treat ! Matt Godrey's narration is awesome as usual. Hoping to see Autumncrow 2 in the future.

If you're looking for a light and fun (at times) title that resembles an Australian version of The Devil Wears Prada, look no further. The main character isn't a prim and sweet debutante like you might expect in a title such as this. She swears, smokes and is constantly drunk. To be honest, I thought Hannah (the main character) was a mess.

This book is misclassified as "Fantasy". This book is a teen book, very much so... The main character and his friends are all in the 15/16/17 age range and much of the action takes place at the local high school they all attend. I also think the author somewhat heavily based this book on Twilight, Buffy the Vampire Slayer with a touch of Harry Potter thrown in for good measure. Not that this is a bad thing. The Demon's Apprentice is well written but a touch too juvenile for me. Younger listeners would probably really dig this book. Charlie Thurston does an excellent job of the narration. A++.

I really enjoyed this book. I probably will check out some more books by this same author. Awesome, awesome story but the narration wasn't great. The Australian narrator's Southern accent was pretty bad, But despite that, I really enjoyed the book. There's also quite a few instances where the author has the Southern characters in the book using words that are only used in the UK and Australia. I'm guessing this book was meant just for those markets and not the US.

I enjoyed Witch Island. It’s a fun teenage romp that reads like an eighties slasher film. There is a lot of gore, swearing and sex talk, so maybe not for the faint of heart.

It’s about an island where a witch was wrongly burned alive in the early 1900’s. A ritual of nailing spikes into the ground over here burial mound is performed to ensure that the witch’s spirit is always there trapped on the island and unable to hurt anyone.

In the present time, a group of high school seniors travel out to Witch Island to throw one last party before they all go away to college. They pull the metal spikes out of the ground and accidentally free the witch who goes from person to person, inhabiting them and wrecking havoc on the small group. Before long there’s only one left...

This is my first Jeff Strand book and I loved it. Dweller is the life story of Toby, a kind-hearted nerd whose best friend is a monster named Owen. Dweller is at times sad and touching but has it's gory moments too. A monster has to eat, right ? Hoping the author will do a sequel one day. I was extremely impressed by the narration from Scott Thomas. A++

This is the story of Katherine who lives beside a lake with here husband, James where they own a small resort in Blissful Point, Massachusetts. Things begin to get a little strange when a little Japanese boy drowns in the lake. Katherine thinks that her husband is being moody and behaving oddly because he’s grieving for the little boy and somehow feel partly responsible but that’s not it at all. There’s so much more to this equation. We find out as the story unfolds that James is so much more than just Katherine’s husband. James is the lake.

This book is extremely well written and somewhat enigmatic as all of Mr. Gifune’s books tend to be. The creeping evil or the bogie man in his books are often unnamed and intangible. The monster is what your mind makes out of it and that will be differ from person to person. I really enjoyed this book although I found the ending too abrupt and without explanation.

The narrator, Kitty Hendrix was perfect for this book. She was able to convey through her slightly husky voice just the right amount of fear and confusion as the events of the story unraveled.
