Seven years ago a woman with too many secrets and a man with too many lies fell in love. Then she left him. Isabel's quiet life as an assistant to one of London's famous apothecaries hides a deadly secret. A secret that could see her put on trial for witchcraft if the authorities uncover the truth. Solid storytelling
Revisado: 04-16-25
CJ Archer does it again! You can’t go wrong with a period piece mixed with magic and romance. CJ Archer does this very well. There were a few moments where I felt the “romance” was a bit forced for sake of “romance” but, otherwise, it’s a solid story with like-able characters.

Historia
Whimbrel House is changing. Merritt and Hulda are raising a family. Owein has signed a marriage contract with the magically compatible Lady Cora, a heavyweight of British nobility who’s an ocean away. And the lovely shape-shifting druid Fallon makes a distractingly fetching friend for Owein. But another change is in the air, and this time it’s something wicked. The greatest wizard of the millennium, Silas Hogwood, is back—after five years dead. New body, same foul scent, and driven by madness and revenge.

Sigh… I wish the story ended differently, but that’s just because I’m so sad lol it’s a fantastic story and the voice actors are incredible. Original, touching, exciting. So good.

A sensational story told my a sensational voice
Revisado: 01-15-25
Even with the voices of the movie actors in my head, it was easy to slip into the story and be guided by Serkis. I loved hearing all the little details that had to be left out of the movie and enjoying the story all over again.

But Jeanie’s arrival disrupts Logan’s routine and he wants nothing to do with the irritatingly upbeat new girl, except that he finds himself inexplicably drawn to her. Will Jeanie’s happy-go-lucky attitude win over the grumpy-but-gorgeous Logan, or has this city girl found the one person in town who won’t fall for her charm, or her pumpkin spice lattes.

Kinda boring, kinda cute?
Revisado: 11-02-24
The author introduced an element of suspense and potential danger but then didn’t follow through. The main male character is like a walking red flag. There were a lot of cliches and a lack of substance. But if you’re looking for something to turn your brain off to, this is the one.

Better than the last
Revisado: 06-29-24
The story itself is incredible and really unique. It doesn’t feel like it’s a re-make or spin off of a series or story that’s been done before. The narration is also exceptional as always. I just get a bit hung up on some of the descriptive language: it feels underdeveloped or redundant. The author spends a lot of time telling us how we should feel instead of just having the characters feel or take action. That’s my only hang up. But I will be back for more because, like I said, the story is wonderful.

The haunted look in her eyes as she was recaptured by the palace guards is something Josie, daughter of the village doctor, has never forgotten. For Josie, the palace is a mystery that grows more intriguing after she meets the captain of the guards, a man known only as Hammer, as mysterious and captivating as the palace itself. Whispers of magic fuel Josie's desire to uncover the truth, but an ordinary girl like her can only dream of ever being invited inside.

Historia
Lady Katarina Ashowan has never quite fit the mold of a noblewoman—and it's not only because she's a mutated fire witch. Though she's the closest friend and confidant of Alina, the soon-to-be-coronated queen of Troivack, Kat would much rather play cards with questionable characters or steal out at night to go riding than bandy niceties with suitors and deal with affairs of state. So as soon as Alina is officially crowned, the young witch plans to put away her dresses and get into some real adventure, training with a master swordsman.

Great story, not as great as last time tho
Revisado: 03-12-24
I wish I didn’t have to say anything negative, but I was a little bit disappointed this time around. The story itself is so engaging and interesting that I can’t wait to see what happens next. But I found myself cringing a little bit at some of the corniness of characters lines and development, etc. this time around I felt as if the story was for a much younger audience, even with the inclusion of intimacy and marriage. Narration was great as always.
