Historia
In 2001 Mo Gawdat realized that despite his incredible success, he was desperately unhappy. A lifelong learner, he attacked the problem as an engineer would: examining all the provable facts and scrupulously applying logic. Eventually, his countless hours of research and science proved successful, and he discovered the equation for permanent happiness. Thirteen years later, Mo's algorithm would be put to the ultimate test. After the sudden death of his son, Ali, Mo and his family turned to his equation—and it saved them from despair.

Useful method to adjust your thinking.

The steps he suggests are not new to psychology, but are presented in a wonderful framework. The story surrounding it keeps you engaged, and motivated to try his methods.

Historia
Art scams are today so numerous that the specter of a lawsuit arising from a mistaken attribution has scared a number of experts away from the business of authentication and forgery, and with good reason. Art scams are increasingly convincing and involve incredible sums of money. The cons perpetrated by unscrupulous art dealers and their accomplices are proportionately elaborate. Anthony M. Amore's The Art of the Con tells the stories of some of history's most notorious yet untold cons.

Really fun true detective stories. Well read. Great reminder of "caveat emptor". Glad I can't afford to be "duped", since I can't afford the price of "fakes".

Historia
In 1819, a girl was born to the fourth son of King George III. No one could have expected such an unassuming, overprotected girl to be an effective ruler - yet Queen Victoria would become one of the most powerful monarchs in history. Writing with novelistic flair and historical precision, Kate Williams reveals a vibrant woman in the prime of her life, while chronicling the byzantine machinations that continued even after the crown was placed on her head.

Title does not include Princess Charlotte.
Revisado: 08-28-18
I enjoyed this well written and researched book. But the title does not reveal that the entire first third of the book is about the Hanovers and Princess Charlotte, also a fascinating tale.

Historia
The life of Princess May of Teck is one of the great Cinderella stories in history. From a family of impoverished nobility, she was chosen by Queen Victoria as the bride for her eldest grandson, the scandalous Duke of Clarence, heir to the throne, who died mysteriously before their marriage. Despite this setback, she became queen, mother of two kings, grandmother of the current queen, and a lasting symbol of the majesty of the British throne.

I enjoyed getting to know this Queen beyond the usual photographs and historical facts. It was interesting to see events unfold from her perspective.

Well written, like his novels.
Revisado: 08-23-18
I was the classic "Mary Ann Singleton" at the time Maupin was writing his Tales of the City daily column. In the early 1970's I was reading it every morning while riding the #41 Union bus from my Pacific Heights studio apartment to my administrative insurance job in the Embarcadero Center. I was raised in a similar background to Maupin on the East Coast. So I thoroughly related to his real life, and to his literary character, while reading this book. Like Mary Ann, I learned about gay life, pot, AIDS and more through his column, NOT experience. I enjoyed the honesty with which this book was written.

Historia
From his rapid-fire stand-up comedy riffs to his breakout role in Mork & Mindy and his Academy Award-winning performance in Good Will Hunting, Robin Williams was a singularly innovative and beloved entertainer. He often came across as a man possessed, holding forth on culture and politics while mixing in personal revelations - all with mercurial, tongue-twisting intensity as he inhabited and shed one character after another with lightning speed. But as Dave Itzkoff shows in this revelatory biography, Williams’ comic brilliance masked a deep well of conflicting emotions and self-doubt.

Mispronounces MaRIN as MArin! Otherwise great.
Revisado: 08-23-18
Whoever was responsible for allowing the reader to mispronounce an essential word in this story should be ashamed. Didn't anyone ever check this with someone? Robin Williams lived in MaRIN County, not MArin. This was an extreme distraction since the name is used throughout. A smaller mistake, somewhat more excusable, was pronouncing CleMENT Street as CLEMent Street. It is not the fault of the reader, unless the reader was responsible for checking his own pronunciation.
Otherwise, this was an extremely well written book.
