When retired math teacher Grace Winters is left a run-down house on a Mediterranean island by a long-lost friend, curiosity gets the better of her. An adventure of letting go
Revisado: 09-07-24
The story is a well written adventure that fans of The Midnight Library and The Humans will enjoy. It gives you the best and worst of humanity and all the feelings. And also, the challenge of what it really means to live.

I just read this for the 3rd time. It points out the ways we get it wrong when responding to the hard times. And there’s no instagram post, saying, or positivity that changes the fact that sometimes, life is really hard. Also, it’s a painfully beautiful reminder that by meeting people where they are, it is more powerful and connecting.

Why did I wait?!
Revisado: 01-20-24
I bought this book several months ago and for one reason or another, I didn’t read it until now. I think I was worried it would be too technical and formal. The story is wonderfully human and a good reminder that we are all human. Funny, insightful, and equal parts uplifting and heartbreaking. So good I have to read it again. If you’ve ever been to therapy, you’ll get it. If you’ve never been, maybe you should read it.
Also, the narrator has a wonderful voice to listen to. One of my favorites, so far.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Revisado: 05-20-23
Who knew a novel about a woman, a young man, and an octopus would be so intriguing? The story guides the reader through the perspective of all three lost characters and their journey to finding what was meant for them all along. Audio was beautifully done, as well.

Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Charles Dickens is not feeling the Christmas spirit. His newest book is an utter flop, the critics have turned against him, relatives near and far hound him for money. While his wife plans a lavish holiday party for their ever-expanding family and circle of friends, Dickens has visions of the poor house. But when his publishers try to blackmail him into writing a Christmas book to save them all from financial ruin, he refuses. And a serious bout of writer's block sets in.

Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Best popular read since Harry Potter!
Revisado: 12-10-17
Ernest Cline wrote a great adventure story that the average reader who has any fond memories of the 80’s or video games since Atari will thoroughly enjoy it! The story keeps you turning the pages (or listening intently) all the way through. David... vs Goliath. The only odd thing in the book is a single rant against all religion. It really didn’t add to the story until I realized, though, that it was speaking to how desolate the times are when humanity is without faith and the lack of caring for their neighbor. But the base storyline is where the magic is. Adventure, suspense, love... you’ll even find yourself laughing as the characters are faced with challenge after challenge in the hopes of winning the “lottery”; which is the ownership of the OASIS virtual reality and casts amounts of money that would transform their lives as they fight off the competition and try to overcome against all odds.
Also, Will Wheaton does a fantastic job narrating this story. It may be his best audio narrative performance, yet.

Sixty-nine-year-old Arthur Pepper lives a simple life. He gets out of bed at precisely 7:30 a.m., just as he did when his wife, Miriam, was alive. He dresses in the same gray slacks and mustard sweater-vest; waters his fern, Frederica; and heads out to his garden. But on the one-year anniversary of Miriam's death, something changes. Sorting through Miriam's possessions, Arthur finds an exquisite gold charm bracelet he's never seen before.

Historia
Meet Harold Fry, recently retired. He lives in a small English village with his wife, Maureen, who seems irritated by almost everything he does, even down to how he butters his toast. Little differentiates one day from the next. Then one morning the mail arrives, and within the stack of quotidian minutiae is a letter addressed to Harold in a shaky scrawl from a woman he hasn’t seen or heard from in twenty years. Queenie Hennessy is in hospice and is writing to say goodbye.
