Historia
Born in Castellammare del Golfo, Sicily, Joseph Bonanno found his future amid the whiskey-running, riotous streets of Prohibition America in 1924, when he illegally entered the United States to pursue his dreams. By the age of only 26, Bonanno became a don. He eventually took over the New York underworld, igniting the "Castellammarese War", one of the bloodiest Family battles ever to hit New York City.

Very Good, but Extremely Sanctimonious
Revisado: 02-01-24
This was a really interesting book, and gave good insight from someone who was there at the very beginning. The author comes off as extremely sanctimonious and at tomes dishonest, and should be taken with a grain of salt though. I appreciate that we’re getting the opinion of someone who’s not a rat, but he still doesn’t come off as honest in any way.

Anthony "Gaspipe" Casso, the boss of New York's Lucchese crime family, was a Mafia superstar, responsible for more than 50 murders. Currently serving 13 life sentences at a federal prison in Colorado, Casso has given journalist and New York Times best-selling author Philip Carlo the most intimate, personal look into the world of La Cosa Nostra ever seen.

Misses the Mark
Revisado: 01-18-24
I think out of all the high profile rats in LCN, Casso’s story is one of the most interesting. However the book was really poorly done, lots of patently ridiculous mistakes (wrong names for prominent mobsters, grossly overrated size of the families, and things like that). It’s also really odd how the author goes above and beyond in describing men’s appearances and their physiques. All in all, not a bad listen, just sloppily executed.

Bob comes off as a little bit odd, and the logic and decision making he demonstrates throughout the book are pretty ponderous but he also comes off as if he’s telling the truth. The narrator is awful, really took away from the experience but the content was very good.

Historia
The biggest lie in history is about to be shattered. UFOs are real. In late June of 1947, three extraterrestrial craft were downed outside Roswell Air Force Base. Many more followed, revealing dozens of ET species and a Rosetta Stone to a new physics, an energy generation and propulsion system responsible for interstellar space travel. This new system could have easily replaced oil, gas, coal, and nuclear plants - and with them, the entire geopolitical and economic order on our planet. But a cabal of bankers, the military-industrial complex, and Big Oil stopped it.

Historia
The “adopted” son of legendary organized crime boss Russell Bufalino, for decades D’Elia had unequaled access to the man the FBI and US Justice Department considered one of the leading organized crime figures in the United States. But the government had no real idea as to the breadth of Bufalino’s power and influence—or that it was Bufalino, from his bucolic home base in Pittston, Pennsylvania, who reigned over the five families in New York and other organized crime families throughout the country.

I liked it a lot, Billy D’Elia is well liked and respected in Northeastern Pennsylvania, and to me a lot of what Brandt wrote smacked of BS. This one felt like a more realistic representation of those events, and of Buffalino as a man.

Historia
It is the 20th century's unrivaled epic: At a staggering price, the United States and its allies liberated Europe and vanquished Hitler. In the first two volumes of his best-selling Liberation Trilogy, Rick Atkinson recounted the history of how the American-led coalition fought its way from North Africa and Italy to the threshold of victory. Now he tells the most dramatic story of all - the titanic battle in Western Europe. D-Day marked the commencement of the war's final campaign, and Atkinson's astonishingly fresh account of that enormous gamble sets the pace for the masterly narrative that follows.

Historia
The son of Sicilian immigrants, Camillo Carmine Galante was raised in Manhattan's Little Italy and by all accounts born bad. By fifteen he was terrorizing the streets of New York's Lower East Side, scoring high marks for the "errands" he was running for his La Cosa Nostra elders. When he turned twenty, Galante was already one of the mob's top enforcers-a sadistic thrill killer and clinically diagnosed psychopath with big dreams.

Lazy Attempt; Awful Narrator
Revisado: 05-05-23
The story is pretty thin, not sure that there is any way around that with mob stories without inside information. The narrator is nasally and has an affect that makes him really tough to listen to. Skip it.

Historia
Buffalo has housed its fair share of thugs and mobsters. Besides common criminals and bank robbers, a powerful crime family headed by local boss Stefano Magaddino emerged in the 1920s. Close to Canada, Niagara Falls and Buffalo were perfect avenues through which to transport booze, and Magaddino and his Mafiosi maintained a stranglehold on the city until his death in 1974. Local mob expert Michael Rizzo takes a tour of Buffalo's mafia exploits everything from these brutal gangsters' favorite hangouts to secret underground tunnels to murder.

This Narrator is Awful
Revisado: 03-26-23
The story is great, but for the life of me I don’t understand how this narrator gets work. There are so many great audiobooks ruined by him. Anyway, the story is a great look into organized crime in Buffalo and its impact on other families. The narration is profoundly bad, and they mispronounce a lot of names, but last that it’s a good one.

Historia
Before America joined World War I, a small group of Americans volunteered for the French Foreign Legion to help defeat the Central Powers. Historian David Hanna profiles seven of these volunteers: a poet, an artist, a boxer, a stunt pilot, a college student, a veteran of the Spanish American War, and an advertising executive. All seven men were united in courage; and some, like poet Alan Seeger, paid the ultimate sacrifice.
