Historia
Soon after WWII, U.S. statesman Dean Acheson warned that creating Israel on land already inhabited by Palestinians would "imperil" both American and all Western interests in the region. Despite warnings such as this one, President Truman supported establishing a Jewish state on land primarily inhabited by Muslims and Christians.

Very Informative

While I was aware of much of the history of pro Israel lobbying in Europe prior to 1948, the author expanded my knowledge and understanding of the involvement of wealthy and well connected Zionist in the United States prior to WW1 and WW2.

Historia
When Kristina Kuzmič started to see signs that her otherwise sunny, resilient teenage son was struggling, she was sure a few simple fixes could right the ship. But over the following months, the issues her family faced became more nuanced, complicated, and pervasive than she could've predicted—and what began as a clear to do list spiraled into an emotionally fraught and seemingly endless push and pull between signs of progress and overwhelming fear.

Historia
April 16th, the year is 1963. Birmingham, Alabama, has had a spring of nonviolent protests known as the Birmingham Campaign, seeking to draw attention to the segregation against Blacks by the city government and downtown retailers. The organizers longed to create a nonviolent tension so severe that the powers that be would be forced to address the rampant racism head on. Recently arrested was Martin Luther King, Jr.... It is there in that jail cell that he writes this letter; on the margins of a newspaper he pens this defense of nonviolence against segregation.

Still Relevant Today
Revisado: 03-23-24
Dr . King's letter from a Birmingham jail could have been written today without the loss of relevance. In fact the letter and the circumstances leading to its creation brought to mind, Reverend, Dr. Gunther Isaac's Christmas message in 2023 delivered from Bethlehem in the midst of Israel's brutal massacre of Palestinians.

Historia
Two years ago, Dr. Gina Brady broke Thomas Prescott’s heart, but now her panic-stricken satellite phone call starts it beating again with a fury. Thugs kidnapped the good doctor from the remote jungle village where she was working, and now the retired homicide detective’s expert skills are desperately needed to save her. Led by a colorful, but perhaps untrustworthy local guide, Prescott journeys deep into the Bolivian Amazon, plunging into a world where the only thing more dangerous than the gun-toting drug traffickers and the ruthless tribesmen, is the jungle itself.

The best Nick Pirog book Yet!
Revisado: 09-25-22
I've read or listened to at least 5 books by Nick Pirog. Each was well researched, suspenseful and captivating. He has a way of weaving together characters and geopolitical situations that draws you into the story and holds your attention until the very last paragraph. I would recommend every one of his books without reservation. This was my favorite because of its focus on autoimmune diseases of which I have two, rheumatoid arthritis and Sjogren's syndrome and the impact of prescription drug costs in determining access to treatment. If a cure is ever discovered for these diseases it will probably be found in what is left of the Amazon Rain Forest which is the world's richest source of medicine. By the end of the book I couldn't help but imagine what it would feel like for people like me if a cure for autoimmune diseases was actually discovered and what role the pharmaceutical industry would play in determining who would have access to the treatment.

Oh My Goodness!
Revisado: 09-21-22
This was just what I needed. It's a well written story that grabs your attention from the initial scene in the jail cell and maintains it's grip on your attention and your curiosity until the very last chapter. The story line can easily be conceived of as a real life situation though it's fictional. I will probably listen again because the performance was superb. Bravo to Linda Berry and to Ms..Pressly for a superb presentation.

This was such an enjoyable listening experience. The narration and performance really drew me in and held my attention. The story was well written and held my interest throughout. I laughed at times and was on the virtual edge of my seat at other times. That's what a very good story coupled with very good narration is supposed to do. Highly recommended without reservation.

Historia
Ascending to the leadership role of US Attorney for the Southern District, which includes Manhattan and several counties to the north, is a capstone to any legal career: it entails guiding a team of the best lawyers in America in selecting and winning cases that often have global import. Geoffrey Berman was honored to be tapped for the job by Donald Trump in 2018. The manner in which Trump had dispatched his predecessor Preet Bharara was troubling, but the institution was fabled for its independence. Surely he could manage.

Revisado: 09-18-22
I purchased this book because I 'd followed the news about Mr. Berman's firing by AG Barr when it happened. I was always curious about what really happened and was hopeful that at least one of US attorneys forced out of office during the Trump administration would write a book about the behind the scenes activity that led to the public firing. This book is well written and it exceeded my expectation by the inclusion of helpful and instructive information on the role and responsibilities of the SDNY prosecutor's office. Mr. Berman also included behind the scenes details of other cases I was interested in such as the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case among others. To my knowledge it is the first book narrated by Mr. Berman and in that regard he did a decent job.

Historia
The 1968 US presidential election was the young Lawrence O'Donnell's political awakening, and in the decades since it has remained one of his abiding fascinations. For years he has deployed one of America's shrewdest political minds to understanding its dynamics, not just because it is fascinating in itself but because in it is contained the essence of what makes America different and how we got to where we are now.

Deeply Researched and Delivered Superbly
Revisado: 01-25-22
I've been a political junkie for most of my adult life and I thought that I was very informed about the behind the scenes political maneuvering and in some instances corrupt behaviors of elected leaders on the right and the left. But, in reading Playing With Fire by Lawrence O'Donnell, I found myself in awe of his his thoroughness in delivering deeply researched, fact -based insights into the political dynamics surrounding the Vietnam War and the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Lawrence' ability to flesh out and bring to life the personalities of politicians like LBJ, RFK, JFK, Eugene McCarthy, and Richard Nixon among others is unsurpassed in my view. Lawrence did an excellent job narrating his work. I learned a great deal from Playing With Fire and I'm grateful to Lawrence O'Donnell for sharing his gift if storytelling, political insight and his respect for facts and truth with the rest of us.

Unforgettable!
Revisado: 12-30-21
The Darker Child by Dorothy Phillips is by far the most impressive, insightful and emotionally impactful literary work I've read or listened to in many years. The depth of insight and ability to give voice to the dark corners of mental illness within the context of a deeply dysfunctional family unit was truly remarkable. Delores Phillips offered readers important and realistic insights into the role of pigmentocracy or Light-Skin preference and how it damages everyone experiencing it in the nuclear and extended family. She delivered a realistic view of life for Black folk in the Jim Crow South and how the practice of objectifying the bodies of Black women and girls and self-hatred led to horrific outcomes for female children in the book.. Bahni Turpin's narration was simply extraordinary.
I was so sorry to hear that Ms Phillips passed away in 2014 because I believe deeply that had she lived, her next book once completely would have been as remarkable as her first.
