Historia
A 90-year-old man is found dead in his bed, smothered with his own pillow. On his desk, the police find newspaper cuttings about a murder case dating from the Second World War, when a young woman was found strangled behind Reykjavik's National Theatre. Konrad, a former detective, is bored with retirement and remembers the crime. He grew up in "the shadow district", a rough neighborhood bordered by the National Theatre. Why would someone be interested in that crime now?

Even better the second time
Revisado: 10-04-21
I really enjoy the author and particularly this series, and decided to listen to this one again. It is such a tragic story in so many ways, and moves along at a good pace. The author moves back and forth seamlessly between Konrad's story and that of Thorson and Flovint. I will probably listen to the second book too.

Possibly the best in the series
Revisado: 11-07-19
While the plot relies on a big coincidence, it did not interfere with my enjoyment of the book. I felt that the author did a wonderful job of developing the characters, especially Erlunder and his daughter, and it provided more insight into the tragedy that has defined Erlunder's life. I'm about to start the next in this fantastic series!

Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she's thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy. But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office.

Hardly a day goes by when nine-year-old Laurent Lepage doesn't cry wolf. From alien invasions to walking trees to winged beasts in the woods to dinosaurs spotted in the village of Three Pines, his tales are so extraordinary no one can possibly believe him. Including Armand and Reine-Marie Gamache, who now live in the little Quebec village.

Historia
Barbara Demick's Nothing to Envy follows the lives of six North Koreans over fifteen years - a chaotic period that saw the death of Kim Il-sung and the unchallenged rise to power of his son, Kim Jong-il, and the devastation of a far-ranging famine that killed one-fifth of the population. Taking us into a landscape never before seen, Demick brings to life what it means to be an average Korean citizen, living under the most repressive totalitarian regime today.

Couldn't get past the narrator
Revisado: 03-29-18
I would like to have listened to more of this audiobook, but I could not get past the annoying narrator. Her tone sounded more appropriate for a romance novel, and her breath control was sorely lacking. I only made it through 2 chapters.

With extraordinary access to the West Wing, Michael Wolff reveals what happened behind-the-scenes in the first nine months of the most controversial presidency of our time in Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House. Since Donald Trump was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States, the country—and the world—has witnessed a stormy, outrageous, and absolutely mesmerizing presidential term that reflects the volatility and fierceness of the man elected Commander-in-Chief.

An appreciation for the Trump WH theatrics
Revisado: 03-11-18
While I had already read most of what was contained in this book, I gained a better appreciation for the chaos that surrounds Trump, most of it his own making. For example, Jarvanka advising him on military matters? Really? The narrator was excellent.

Plodding plot. Irritating narrator.
Revisado: 02-16-18
I may have enjoyed this book better had I read it instead of listening to it, because the narrator's voice really got on my nerves. It would have also have benefited by editing.

Historia
When a group of international activists arrive on the Faroe Islands intent on stopping the traditional whale hunts, or grindadrap, tensions between islanders and protestors run high. And when a woman is found murdered only hours after a violent confrontation at a whale drive, the circumstances seem purposely designed to create even more animosity between the two sides. For Faroese detective Hjalti Hentze and DI Jan Reyna, the case quickly exposes personal connections and conflicts of interest.

Historia
Jan Reyna is a murder squad detective, British by adoption and choice, Faroese by birth and history. Called back to the remote Danish Faroe Islands when his father suffers a paralysing stroke, Reyna is forced to reexamine his decades-long rejection of the past and of his father in particular. But in this now-foreign country, whose language and customs he no longer understands, Reyna is also drawn into a rare Faroese murder case.

Can't wait to read the other books in this series!
Revisado: 08-09-17
While some may find the plot a little slow, I felt that it allowed me to savor the book. The character development was good, but we are left with intriguing questions about Reyna's background, as well as his future. The setting of the Faroes also makes this book stand out from the pack. Imagine my shock when I learned that the main victim and the killer have very similar names to both my grandfathers!

Historia
On a foggy summer night, 11 people - 10 privileged, one down-on-his-luck painter - depart Martha's Vineyard on a private jet headed for New York. Sixteen minutes later, the unthinkable happens: The plane plunges into the ocean. The only survivors are the painter Scott Burroughs and a four-year-old boy, who is now the last remaining member of an immensely wealthy and powerful media mogul's family. Was it by chance that so many influential people perished? Or was something more sinister at work?

A Disappointment
Revisado: 10-31-16
I struggled to even finish listening to this book, whose plot moved at a snail's pace. Five chapters each consisted of a description of a painting. Really? Characters were not developed, and the main character was not sympathetic in the least. And even though the narrator had a fine voice, he even began to get on my nerves, though that was probably due more to the weak plot. Don't waste your time on this one.
