Historia
Frederick the Great is one of history's most important leaders. Famed for his military successes and domestic reforms, his campaigns were a watershed in the history of Europe, securing Prussia's place as a continental power and inaugurating a new pattern of total war that was to endure until 1916. However, much myth surrounds this enigmatic man's personality and his role as politician, warrior, and king.

Overly biased book with a poor narrator.
Revisado: 02-28-23
The book is very obviously biased against Frederick. The common 20th & 21st century practice of dropping in occasional compliments, even one in the very last sentence, gives a paper thin disguise to the criticism. Whether the criticism is warranted or not can’t even be debated due to its sheer volume and blatancy.
Also, the narrator is awful. I’m sorry. Maybe it’s a personal preference but he sounds like the old American grandfather you never wanted trying to read you a bedtime story that’s just a bit beyond his literacy level. Variances in volume, speed, and tone cause an affect of feeling like you’re riding a wave through your own personal hell when combined with the author’s dry, seemingly above it all, writing style.

Historia
On the morning of June 4, 1942, doom sailed on Midway. Hoping to put itself within striking distance of Hawaii and California, the Japanese navy planned an ambush that would obliterate the remnants of the American Pacific fleet. On paper, the Americans had no chance of winning. They had fewer ships, slower fighters, and almost no battle experience. But because their codebreakers knew what was coming, the American navy was able to prepare an ambush of its own.

A solid, if biased, telling with a poor narrator
Revisado: 02-22-23
Title basically sums it up. If you’re familiar with the battle and are an American, it will feed your nationalistic pride while still being true and honest about America’s sloppiness in the battle. Does overstate the underdog status of the US a bit.

Unbelievably Biased General Overview
Revisado: 02-17-23
First & foremost - This book is unacceptably biased. It legitimately borders on British propaganda and revisionist history at times in respect to it’s utter disrespect and, at times, cynical contempt for the historical figures & countries it is speaking about (except the British ones, interestingly).
That said, the overall account of the events involved is generally okay if you can handle it being presented as if the author holds the subjects in utter contempt. The grudging admissions of respect sprinkled throughout serve only to give a paper thin presentation of professionalism. There is little in the way of military specifics or details, likely due to the author being more interested in the geopolitical and socioeconomic aspects of the period. But even on these subjects the author’s blatantly biased viewpoints are difficult to digest.
The narrator is solid. I have no specific complaints. He even does a good job of bringing the biased contempt across by the manner in which he reads some of the chapters.

Loved it. Only slight criticism are some of the varying vocal performances the narrator puts on are a bit…grating.
