Are you bored with 'nice guys' who are open, honest, and dependable? If being in love means being in pain, this book was written for you. Revisado: 04-22-25
If you are looking for a book that explores the reasons people (the book focuses on women in heterosexual relationships) engage in enmeshed codependent relationships then this book will be very helpful. I liked the various client stories that were told and analyzed. Would definitely recommend.

Historia
Anyone who struggles with overeating knows what it’s like to feel out of control—and to feel the guilt attached to it. While ordinary anxiety feels like something that happens to us, the siren song of food cravings feels like something we should be able to control. The result is a toxic cocktail of shame and self-loathing that makes it impossible to change our behavior. The Hunger Habit is based on Judson Brewer’s deeply researched plan proven to help us understand what is going on in our brains so that we can heal the shame and overcome overeating.

Historia
Your autonomic nervous system is responsible for the constant but mostly subconscious communication between your brain and body. When you experience stress, anxiety, or trauma, your nervous system formulates responses to keep you alive. But you can also become trapped in survival mode if you’re consistently exposed to unsafe environments, toxic relationships, or destructive thought patterns. Mind-body practitioners Jen Mann and Karden Rabin now provide the first in-depth look at nervous system regulation, somatic therapy, Polyvagal theory, the vagus nerve, and the mind-body connection.

Historia
Why can't he commit? Many women find themselves asking this question when in love with a man who won't get married, won't stop womanizing, or refuses to give up his sex addictions. Often this kind of man is bound by an unhealthy attachment to his mother. This phenomenon is called mother-son enmeshment. In When He's Married to Mom, clinical psychologist and renowned intimacy expert Dr. Kenneth M. Adams goes beyond the stereotypes of momma's boys and meddling mothers to explain how mother-son enmeshment affects everyone: the mother, the son, and the woman who loves him.

Historia
In Love Is a Choice, best-selling doctors Robert Hemfelt, Frank Minirth, and Paul Meier walk you through their 10 proven stages to recovery from codependency that results from external circumstances. Humans are susceptible to codependency because of our sinful tendency to use defense mechanisms to fool ourselves. In codependent relationships, deceitful games are played, and important Christian principles are often taken out of context and abused.

I’ve read other books on codependency and this one adding information that I hadn’t learn before. I listened to this around Christmas so it was interesting to hear the authors take on Ebeneezer Scrooge. I will add the book a lot of religious content.

Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

Revisado: 10-24-24
I’m not a history buff, just curious about the topic and I found this book very entertaining. I liked how at the end of the chapter there was a section about what historians debate about or have disagreements on. I liked the narration too. Would recommend if interested in learning about 1500-2016 Irish history.
