Historia
In his book, Peter Hitchens describes the misjudgements made by politicians over the years that have led to the increase of class distinction and privilege in our education system. This is of course the opposite of what was intended, especially by former Minister of Education Shirley Williams and Margaret Thatcher, her successor in that role, who closed down many more Grammar Schools than Williams.

I wish I could have rated it better!
Revisado: 03-08-23
the story, or what I got of it, is apparently something we all desperately need to understand. unfortunately, the audio was so muffled and slurred together that after three times of listening to it I am still not 100% sure what was said through the entire book.
I did get bits and pieces enough that I will not be asking for my money back, but, it's a real close race!
I am the guy who has well over 300 books in my library! so I don't say this without a reasonable frame of reference.

Historia
A father's murder sets the stage for a riveting tale of intrigue and passion that also explores profound issues of faith and ethics. This classic novel - considered Dostoevsky's finest work - tells the story of crazed landowner Fyodor Karamazov and his four sons - Dmitry, Ivan, Alyosha, and the illegitimate Smerdyakov. Fyodor's murder sets the stage for a complex tangle of moral and ethical struggles that involve patricide, betrayal, sacrifice, and glory.

Not Exactly Monotone
Revisado: 12-09-22
I was extremely disappointed in the performance of this classic piece of writing! Although not exactly monotone, it was pretty damn close. this story deserves a much better narrator. The engineering of the audio was fine. I was very much able to listen all the way through without too much pain. I just longed for the emotion that this piece deserves.

Leave me wanting Not hanging
Revisado: 06-27-22
Writing is not easy! And this book is proof of that. Although I love this story and listening to it, the writing skills are somewhat lacking.
I am not a writer, and this book is an example of just one of the many skills that I lack. I hope this will not be taken the wrong way, and viewed as a constructive comment.
In both books we have been left hanging at the end of the book rather than wanting. Why hanging I mean like at the end of this book we are left in the middle of a gun fight. This shows a lack of refined skills by the writer. I want to be left wanting more but not halfway through a story. I have bought all three of the books in this series and will continue to listen. I am not upset but disappointment.

A really, Really, REALLY hard lesson!!!
Revisado: 04-20-21
this was a really really hard listen and it has nothing to do with the subject matter as much as it is the recording!
first the amount I think it is called semblance, where the s's are really hard, in the recording is just off the charts.
the k's and C's actually hurt my ears.
the extreme use of the echo button during recording is extremely distracting while trying to listen.
these are just a few of the things I noticed in chapter 1. I went on to listen until chapter 11 when I finally decided it was too much. I wish I could have finished the books because I do believe there may have been some really good information in there.

So you’ve fallen in love with space and now you want to see it for yourself, huh? You want to witness the birth of a star, or visit the black hole at the center of our galaxy? You want to know if there are aliens out there, or how to travel through a wormhole? You want the wonders of the universe revealed before your very eyes? Well stop, because all that will probably kill you.

Physics isn't exciting to everyone!
Revisado: 04-20-21
Paul has managed to take a somewhat boring subject to most, and add a bit of real personality to the subject. I personally like Paul better than Neil deGrasse Tyson when it comes to personality types. but that is a personal observation.
if you like his podcast, Paul's book is done in the same sarcastic style.
the only reason I didn't give it a full five stars is because of the subject matter and I don't know how to make it inviting to anybody who's not a die-hard space fan. so in my book this is a 4.8 out of 5.

It starts as a whisper, barely audible. Rumors. Paranoia. Conspiracy theories. Subterfuge. Like lightning, the plague moves across the globe, leaving few alive. But the end is only the beginning. Primarily set in Memphis, four loosely-connected strangers, caught up in their lives, find their worlds annihilated by the swiftly-moving plague. Alex Connelly is a wealthy young executive. Kirk Foster is a self-absorbed aging gay man. Meredith Brinkley's ongoing war with breast cancer takes a turn for the worse. Logan King is a closeted baseball jock.

extremely disappointing
Revisado: 10-15-20
I only gotten about 2 hours into this audiobook. I still have not gotten to a place where there is anything that makes me want to continue on.
the reader is all right and I believe if the story were better I might even like the tone of his voice but he doesn't do a great job of trying to add different voices to the different characters.

great ending, but....
Revisado: 12-10-18
unfortunately this book was a very hard listen. I had to listen to 90% of the book before I believed that it actually was about belief.
the author is obviously very educated, but I do not need to know all that he knows about biology to get to the point of the book. the point of the book being how belief can affect biology.
I really do wish that the author had spent far more time explaining how to effect change!
if you do buy this book you can get everything you need to know from the last one quarter of the last chapter. and this book is only three chapters long.
