Good story and writing except for ending
Revisado: 04-11-25
I thought the writing an overall story was interesting, which is why I continued to listen, even though as the last quarter of the book happened, I thought it seemed pretty far-fetched. I also thought the very ending wrapped up a little too nicely.

Very much a mixed bag
Revisado: 03-26-25
The overall story line is fascinating, emotional, with some really well written gems in hair. Like other said, there are parts that were so touching that it brought tears to my eyes.
However, I thought some of the writing was not very good. There’s a few hours towards the beginning of the book where it felt really monotonous, and I almost gave up. I thought the relationship that evolves didn’t quite ring true because the main character was such a jerk. I also didn’t like the ending. It felt overly simplified and given the sensitive nature of the book, I think I expected something a little more vulnerable.
Ultimately, I guess I’m glad that I did finish it, so if you think you would enjoy it too, make sure you get through those first few hours.

I thought this was a great story, very engaging, and nice to see Stephen King writing in a different genre than he usually does.

Historia
Among the most celebrated and beloved novels of 2021, Anthony Doerr’s gorgeous third novel is a triumph of imagination and compassion, a soaring story about children on the cusp of adulthood in worlds in peril, who find resilience, hope—and a book. In Cloud Cuckoo Land, Doerr has created a magnificent tapestry of times and places that reflects our vast interconnectedness—with other species, with each other, with those who lived before us, and with those who will be here after we’re gone.

Awesome and hang in there through first couple of chapters
Revisado: 02-19-25
It took a couple chapters for me to get into it, but then I became obsessed. The author does such a good job weaving the stories in and out, giving us a heads up on some things that are going to happen in the future, but not all of them. I love being simultaneously Surprised as well as anticipating what’s going to happen. I also happen to love stories that are interwoven in terms of generations and time.
I thought the performances were really good. The female narrator did a good job with voices, but also subtly projecting more dramatic pieces without being overly dramatic.

Revisado: 02-23-24
I liked this book even more than the other one I read from him (can’t remember the title as I write this, but it was excellent). The way he writes about humanity- if you like a good story and you like characters that emote and evolve in realistic and touching ways- go for it!

Awesome story but not ideal as an audiobook
Revisado: 01-20-24
This is a great story, like everything I have read from her so far. But unlike some of her other books, I didn’t think this one made for a great audiobook. A lot of the phrases and names were challenging and hard to keep track of, and the person reading it did not make any voice differentiation to help. Having a hard copy of the book to look back would have made this a lot easier, Which is why I say it’s a great story, but not great as an audiobook.

Riveting story and performance
Revisado: 12-23-23
Almost makes me want go back and change some of my other five star ratings to four in honor of how amazing I thought this book was. The story was so engaging and touching and the ending was brilliant. And the performer - she really got the various characters down. Always knew which character was speaking. I want to gift this book to everyone.

Revisado: 12-05-23
I loved the entire story and the way the generations interweave. There were enough surprises that I was continually captivated. There were parts that were sincerely, laugh out, loud, funny, although I would not say this is classified as a comedy type of book. The author did a great job reading it. I highly recommend it.

Historia
In her mesmerizing fourth work of fiction, Sue Monk Kidd takes an audacious approach to history and brings her acclaimed narrative gifts to imagine the story of a young woman named Ana. Raised in a wealthy family with ties to the ruler of Galilee, she is rebellious and ambitious, with a brilliant mind and a daring spirit. She engages in furtive scholarly pursuits and writes narratives about neglected and silenced women. Ana is expected to marry an older widower, a prospect that horrifies her. An encounter with 18-year-old Jesus changes everything.

Knocks it out of the park again
Revisado: 11-15-23
Sue Monk Kidd writes another gem that grabbed me from the first page and didn’t let up. It’s everything I want a book to be- entail, well written, topical, emotive, and with a great ending. The performance was one of the best I’ve heard. Her intonation captures the character so well.
