Historia
Over 5,000 years, India has been home to a rich tapestry of peoples and cultures. Two of the world's great religions - Hinduism and Buddhism - have their origins in South Asia, and the lands east of the Indus River have long been a central hub for trade, migration, and cultural exchange. Today the subcontinent contains 20 percent of the world's population and is a thriving center for global business, making this region one of most significant economic powerhouses in the world.

Historical accuracy is questionable when one plays fast and loose and politicizes climate "science". Otherwise decent for a very broad overview.

Historia
The Sound and the Fury is the tragedy of the Compson family, featuring some of the most memorable characters in literature: beautiful, rebellious Caddy; the manchild Benjy; haunted, neurotic Quentin; Jason, the brutal cynic; and Dilsey, their black servant. Their lives fragmented and harrowed by history and legacy, the character’s voices and actions mesh to create what is arguably Faulkner’s masterpiece and one of the greatest novels of the twentieth century.

Outstanding performance
Revisado: 06-05-16
Grover Gardner has got to be one of the best and he really showcases his talent when reading Faulkner or Twain. For anyone who hasn't read this book or is new to Faulkner's stream of consciousness writing, I would suggest maybe reading this book in print first. It's one of my favorite books, top 10, but it takes a little extra to keep up with the time shifts. I read this years ago and listened to it to enjoy again, I think someone listening especially someone new to his work may get a little tangled up. It's said that his writing is "difficult", in my humble opinion that's strong but you' can't expect to read it while distracted, I think you need to devote yourself to the pages. I think I remember reading that WF originally wanted to use italics or different color inks especially in the beginning with Benji's narrative. I think that would take a lot away but I digress. Great book, Faulkner really writing and at the top of his game, not one cranked out for money, wonderful work, beautiful prose, can't say enough. Hope this helps and more people are introduced to his work and enjoy it as much as I have.

Historia
This is the first volume of distinguished historian Dumas Malone's Pulitzer Prize-winning six-volume work on the life and times of Thomas Jefferson. Based on a myriad of sources, it covers Jefferson's ancestry, youth, education, and legal career; his marriage and the building of Monticello; the drafting of the Declaration of Independence and the Notes on Virginia; his rich, fruitful legislative career; his highly controversial governorship; and his early services to the development of the West.

A great start
Revisado: 04-28-16
I've read enough about Jefferson to have become intrigued enough to tackle these long volumes. Just through one but I don't yet see where I can agree with any of the complaints. I think Malone gives credit where it's do and doesn't seem to back away from criticism where warranted. I feel many times people have an opinion of someone based on pieces of information, not the entire picture, and unfortunately at many times misinformation and are unable to study a subject with an open mind. Prejudices are deeply rooted enough to cloud their judgment and impede an unbiased review. As far as the narrator, I enjoyed her tone and tenor, I don't think she ever "swallowed the ends of her sentences" as some have suggested, I think she's done a fine job. Now on to volume II.

Historia
This is the first volume in a bold new series that tells the stories of all peoples, connecting historical events from Europe to the Middle East to the far coast of China, while still giving weight to the characteristics of each country. Susan Wise Bauer provides both sweeping scope and vivid attention to the individual lives that give flesh to abstract assertions about human history. This narrative history employs the methods of "history from beneath" - literature, epic traditions, private letters, and accounts - to connect kings and leaders with the lives of those they ruled.

I understand to write a history of the ancient world in a volume this size would be nearly impossible, but there are some glaring gaps.

"I was frustrated," says Erin Callinan about the genesis of her critically-acclaimed memoir Beautifully Bipolar. "I could no longer sit back while conversation surrounding mental illness was negative, scary, insulting, and inaccurate. I have a voice, and I have a story. I felt a passion, and I went with it. I just started writing: no judgments, limits, or rules." Her purpose: To challenge people to address and remove the stigma associated with mental illness.

Hard listening
Revisado: 04-04-16
Always good to hear another's story of this illness, unfortunately this was nearly impossible to listen to. Narrator sounds like she's reading a Judy Blume book to a class of fifth graders, not someone's experience with mental illness. What a terrible disservice to Erin's experience.
