💬 Wow, this was such a satisfyingly good book! It was so heartwarming and emotional.

Originally I was given this as an ebook ARC through NG, but because life got in the way, I ended up listening to the audiobook instead (KU read and listen!) and I really think that made so much difference. If I had just read it I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it so much but the narrator (Mia Hutchinson-Shaw) did an INCREDIBLE job bringing this to life.

It was predictable and a little scattered but I still enjoyed it. That just made it a cozy, easy read which is what I'm looking for sometimes. I'm not a snob about the books I read anymore 😅. And actually, even though I knew the ending, I still got sucked into the will they won't they literally until the very end.

I loved the letter writing class, and the subtle mystery of who is writing Emma letters/sending her flowers.

I also enjoyed watching as Emma figured out who she is and where she's going in her life. I will admit there is a petty Betty part of me that wanted her to be more dramatic and mean about calling out her parents and sister and give them the middle finger but it's probably best that that didn't happen 🤣

And because I'm a sucker for romance I loved Davis, and the whole story line there. I did get a little frustrated with how slowly it moved and I wish there had been more to it overall but it was still enjoyable.

As I said overall I enjoyed this book, but the narrator was the star of the show here. And based on the reviews I think that if people were to listen to it they would have had a better experience 😅

💬 Well first of all this book is hilarious! Like straight out of the gate I could not stop laughing at the cow funeral, and the bickering between them is just TOP TIER

And I love her openness and vulnerability and the way she doesn't give Flint an inch.

The side characters, his aunt Opal & bestie Corey are so funny and wonderful and you can really feel the small town vibes leaping off the page. Like *I* really want to move to Hell's Bells lol

Along with that, damn, the only other Pippa Grant book I've read was sweet and fluffy and easy/low emotional involvement but the emotional depth in this book is blowing my mind.

It's also just super swoony (my fave) and super sweet (also my fave) and the chemistry between them is 🫦🤌

Plus Daddy Conner's voice 🥵💦🫦

HOWEVER
This would've been a 5⭐ except the sheer number of times it said vagina. 🤣 I have nothing against vaginas and I get that there's only so many words you can use for that but like ....it was a lot. 20 times to be exact. And not just her telling her vag to calm down looking at a hot guy but during spicy times. Idk it was just... too much🤣

💬 To no one's surprise, this book is amazing. I decided to listen to the audiobook once again, I think maybe I just do better with fantasy when I'm listening to an audiobook versus reading an ebook or physical copy.

I do appreciate that it was the same narrator as assistant to the villain, even though I didn't really like her voice in the first book. I don't know if it's just that I'm used to it now or if it sounded better in the second book but it was a better... listening experience I guess?

Anyway you get to continue the story of the villain and Evie, but you also get to hear two other POVs in the story as well which I really enjoyed (but I'm not saying who those arebecause I feel like even including that is a spoiler hahaha.)

I also realized that Evie reminds me of Evie from The Mummy which is probably one of my top 25 movies. I actually remember seeing it in theaters for my birthday. But they both have that same kind of chaotic yet adorable/endearing energy that I love.

Anyway, since this is the second book and a series I don't really want to say too much more because I don't want to give anything away. But it's just as action packed, emotional, magical, hilarious, snarky and swoony as the first book so suffice to say if you enjoyed Asst to the Villain you should def read this book!!

💬 So I discovered this serious because I reviewed an ARC of the second book in the series a few weeks ago (it's called Sweet Escape and it's SOOOOO good so read that one too!!!)

Man, this is such a good series, and I love the winery backdrop. I think I like the second one better than this one but they're still both just really well written. This book seemed more like a coming of age/discovering yourself then a romance but the romance aspect of it was still a huge part of the story.

This was an audiobook for me, available through KU! I thought the narrator's did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life and I didn't even cringe when they did the others voices 😂

I thought the authors did a really good job portraying the struggles that Wes had with his mom and brother, and mistakes he made when he was living in Chicago, and how he's moving forward. Murphy seemed a little flat to me too, but I ate up her story of starting over while still fighting for her dreams and finding her place within her family.

But they discover each other and the chemistry between them was so good and it was just perfect 🥹🥰

I do wish there'd been a resolution with/about Wes' dad though.

Hoping there were be a third book for Micah...!? 👀🤞🤞🤞

💬 Man, I wrote some comments about this book. 😅 First I want to say that the narrator was awesome. I could listen to her talk all day. Her Scottish accent was just delicious. And finally a book where the narrator doesn't try to do a different voice for male and female 🙌

Originally starting out I was really enjoying the story. I think the idea of the plot was hilariously great and could have been done really well, but the execution was lacking IMHO.

The biggest thing that stuck out to me is both MCs (especially Liz) are just toxic, awful people. They are so childish and petty and insecure. I will say there is a bit of a redemption arc for them- a lot of their immaturity was acknowledged by the MCs towards the end and Tom called her out on her bullshit about hobbies...but they still have a ways to go.

Another that I personally didn't enjoy (but I know there is an audience for) is HOW OFTEN they talked about wanting to be unmarried and child-free. We get it lol. I'm definitely not the target audience for that nor do I understand the desire, but you gotta do what's right for you. However in the book it wouldn't have bothered me so much if it wasn't brought up so much.

It also felt like Liz was demanding a commitment frim Tom without wanting to give one in return. I know that marriage isn't the only way of committing to somebody but the way they kept talking about it made it seem like she just wanted to casually date him.

I also need to mention the over 50 crowd would have been in their late 20s to 40s when The Thong Song came out... It's not surprising the 50+ crowd would go mad for it 🤣

And finally.... This is technically a spoiler, but doesn't affect the main story....
.
.
Maybe this part of the book was meant to be sarcastic and I just missed it but it really pissed me off when they were talking about not wanting to be bothered to help with the foster kids 🤣. In the whole book a big part of her personality is complaining about Tom's wealth (meh, ok) and that he needs to find ways to use that wealth for good (commendable) but when his mother decides to turn their family estate into a foster home (even more commendable). Then they they make such disparaging remarks about it and vow to have as little involvement as possible. I'm guessing it's to reinforce their child free status but it was just GROSS.

💬 Overall, this was a sweet and satisfying story that I enjoyed listening to! The storyline was great, and I was rooting so hard for Kolt and Sam, while simultaneously being desperate for them to get on the same page lol. I also get that it’s kind of the main point of the book but towards the end the “but you’re just a distraction” seemed a little overdone and repetitive.

I like that it’s pretty low angst, but I do wish there had been more resolution with their ex’s. And can I just say what kind of trashy h*e wants to wear her ex bestie’s engagement ring? 😂😂😂 I mean, maybe Felix got it planning to give it to Emily but gave it to Sam first??? I laughed so hard at that.

As for the narrator, I’m really not a fan of her fake man voice. I really wish she would have just read the book straight without trying to differentiate between Kolt and Sam.

Megan is a new to me author, I actually read the ebook a few weeks ago on my own because I read and loved the ARC of her most recent book, The Remains of Christmas, and then jumped on the chance to listen to the audiobook.
I’m also pretty new to listening to audiobooks- mostly choosing to listen to books I’ve previously read and I have to say this is the first time where no only did listening to the story make me like it even more, but it made the story better. Several audiobooks I’ve listened to have changed my perspective slightly for the worse of books I previously read/enjoyed because listening to the tone of voice/inflection was different from how they sounded in my head when I was reading. Morgue to Love was the opposite- the narration matched my brain. Along with that I think the narrators themselves did a great job.
As for the story itself, I loved it, but I already knew that I would from reading it earlier this month lol. At this point in my life I’m mainly reading books for the romance story/relationship aspect and this definitely fits the bill. I really enjoy the last responders theme, although I wish there had been more about Soula’s job, and there was a lot about Soula’s childhood/life that I found relatable. Highly recommend!
