A parasite-carrying asteroid has unleashed a zombie plague upon the world, forcing nurse Zoe McCallister to flee her overrun neighborhood with her badly injured husband Oliver, their dog Louie, and Jurnee, the little girl Oliver rescued from a burning vehicle.
