Historia
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Historia
Your nervous system is you. All the thoughts, perceptions, moods, passions, and dreams that make you an active, sentient being are the work of this amazing network of cells. For many centuries, people knew this was true. But no one was sure how it happened. Now, thanks to the exciting new field of neuroscience, we can chart the workings of the brain and the rest of the nervous system in remarkable detail to explain how neurons, synapses, neurotransmitters, and other biological processes produce all the experiences of everyday life, in every stage of life.

Excellent book and well versed author in the nuances of shame and related beliefs that diminish our right to Joy on thus planet. A numbing of feelings” addict, Rene is spot on implying addiction is a generic concept applying to a myriad of substances and compulsive behaviors - all in the service of lacking a tolerance of feelings beyond our threshold of comfort.

Historia
The Addictive Brain is a fair and balanced investigation of addiction, backed by hard science and behavioral science. Most of us have probably seen the old antidrug commercial in which an actor compares your brain on drugs to an egg sizzling in a hot frying pan. That's a powerful image, but it doesn't tell us what actually happens when drugs enter your body and interact with neurochemical processes.

Biopsychosocial Aspects of Addiction
Revisado: 09-02-16
As a clinical psychologist and director of an eating disorder and chemical dependency program I found this course excellent. It presents a balanced perspective on the nature of both substance and process addictions. It validates my own research and experience, namely one must consider the nature of the substance or behavior, the nature of the person, and the environment where both meet - availability
