Elijah Wood is the perfect choice to read this, as many of us remember him as Huck himself in the movie, but also he's got a wonderful innocence in his voice that really lent itself well here. Twain's dialects can be difficult, so the masterful dramatization made this listen a lot more enjoyable .

A Gem

Jenny Slate is a lovely little weird and her book of poetry/biography/stream of consciousness is, at times, bizarre and difficult to stick with if you're not in a philosophical state of mind. But mostly this book is delicious and magical and funny and affirming. There is a chapter near the end, The Blue Hour, that is brilliant and I will quote as much as possible about being content with and dare I say delighted and fortified by your own company. Congrats to her for pouring herself so freely into this art.

Tragic Miscommunication Trope

Perfect fall read

Good but wanting more (minor spoiler included)

Beth O'Leary is one of my new favorite authors, primarily bc her characters are so real and endearing. The details and depth of feeling she brings into them are truly special. And the audio readers are always fantastic!
I liked all three main characters (POVs) in this book, but bc the narrative investment is spread out between them (*spoiler* and deliberately full of misdirection), I didn't feel as attached. Another of Ms. O'Leary's gifts is portraying emotional trauma and its labyrinths. As I finished, I found myself wishing this had somehow been two different books so that I could connect with everyone more, including the wonderful side characters (Aggie!).

I love this author. Fantastic stories about caring, creative, middle-aged women taking opportunities to grow and discover new loves. Great narration, too.

I started reading "romance" during the pandemic bc I couldn't stomach my usual history and thrillers anymore. This is my favorite so far. Sweet, funny, and an important view of the holds of emotional wounds. Read it now!

This is a very smart, female-driven thriller. All characters, even supporting roles, are complex and interesting. Not a quick-moving story but fascinating all the same. Really enjoyed.
