In history classes from high school forward. We don’t teach this, we’ve stopped in the last 50 years and the only way to preserve our democracy is to educate our children, as the Vindman family did, in how our government should work and in our personal responsibilities to it.

Textbook for studying

This is a detailed academic work. If you are looking for excellent background on the study of human populations over the last several decades this is where to go. It’s not an easy listen, I found myself backing up multiple times and wishing I had read it on paper. For those with an interest in this research and the studies, it’s an excellent source.

Mayor Pete writes; every one should listen

Biography and memoir of Mayor Peter Buttigieg’s first 37 years. Extremely well written and runs like a novel. Impressive life, extraordinary ideas for politics, city management and the country’s future.

I’d vote for this man for President. His intellect and devotion to his job and country, plus the skills that got him elected in an 80% landslide for a second term as mayor would be a gift to the United States.

The Russians meddled in our election and continue to tinker with our opinions and spread disinformation through our nation.
No matter who you voted for or whether you believe Trump actively cooperated with Putin, he has by his refusal to address it passively enabled meddling past AND FUTURE.

Required reading

For everyone. Especially anyone who voted for Trump and still thinks he’s going to “shakeup Washington” the role of the media has become so large that everyone should be deliberately listening to as diverse a collection of networks as possible. Too many people are passionately positive they know the “only” truth, and no one source is completely accurate which this writer actually points out. Finally we need to bring basic courses in government and history, the constitution and civics back to middle and high school. An educated electorate is the best safeguard of democracy, and this presidency proves the dangers of one who does not understand what governance requires.

Based on history

I’ve enjoyed this series which is based on a Bow Street detective of the era of the same name. This book weaves a real life tragedy and mystery from 1812 with a some fictional solution in a fast paced and entertaining story based in history. Well worth the read or listen. The narrator does a great job with the varied characters and accents.

Unusual and extraordinary

The premise of this book is that two gay men living in the 1850s to the 1870s served on the union side in the Civil War. It is an extraordinary twist on a civil war story. It is beautifully, poetically written and extraordinary in its commentary on life both then and now of not just gay men but all who serve. I highly recommend it.

Hard to hear but rings true

As the niece of woman who survived twenty years as a paraplegic, this all rings very true.

I do think that the author changes points of view too often; I recognize that the multiple readers is the only way to deal with that in audio but it still proved difficult.

Other than that, a great story realistically done
